Court remands BDC operator over alleged N156m theft (Guardian)
For allegedly obtaining by false pretence and stealing N157 million, a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, yesterday, remanded a Bureau De Change (BDC) operator, Atoyebi Lateef Bamidele, in the custody of Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS).
Justice Akintayo Aluko remanded Bamidele, who trades under the name, Prosocial International Limited, after he was arraigned on the charge filed against him by officers of Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID), Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos.
The defendant was arraigned sequel to a petition to the police by Alaba traders, through their lawyer, Mr Mejulu Henry. Read more
Court remands man for damaging, attempting to steal Toyota jeep (Guardian)
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 20-year old man, Ademola Owolabi, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for pleading guilty to damaging a side glass of a jeep in an attempt to steal the vehicle.
The defendant, a conductor who resides at 4, Modinu St., Oshodi, Lagos is being tried for damage and attempting to steal.
The Magistrate, Mr A. T. Ameen ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Center until Sept. 28 for fact presentation and sentencing. Read more
Man petitions IGP, CP over alleged use of policemen for land grabbing (Guardian)
A Lagos-based businessman, Samsudeen Oluwo, has petitioned the acting Inspector General of police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and the state Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, over alleged use of police officers for land grabbing and intimidation by a developer, Saheed Mosadoluwa, known as Ibile.
Oluwo, who spoke through Executive Project Director, Lawyers for Reform Group (LRG), Oladotun Hassan, alleged that police orderlies are being used by the developer, who is the Chairman of Harmony Garden and Estate development limited, to harass innocent persons.
Before the petition, there was a video showing Oluwo being stripped naked by a team of police officers and allegedly supervised by Mosadoluwa in the Epe area of the state. Read more
Car washer steals customer’s vehicle three days after employment (Punch)
Just three days after being employed at a car wash in the Isheri area of Lagos State, one Issa Muhammed has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly absconding with and attempting to sell a Toyota Camry given to him to wash.
It was gathered that men of the Rapid Response Squad nabbed the suspect on Sunday, September 9.
PUNCH Metro learnt from a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, that the suspect had already removed all identifications linking the car to the owner when he was caught by the RRS team. Read more
Court remands jealous lover for killing girlfriend (Punch)
A security man, Samuel Adeniyi, was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre on Monday for allegedly smashing the head of his girlfriend, Morolake Sunday, with a sledgehammer in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos State.
Magistrate Patrick Nwaka of the Yaba Magistrate’s Court ordered that the 33-year-old be remanded after he (Adeniyi) was brought to court on one count of murder.
The police prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen told the court that the incident occurred on August 10, 2023, at No. 33, Audu Ekpa Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State.
Naval officer nabbed for assaulting Lagos traffic warden (Punch)
A naval officer, Adejobi Samson, has been arrested for assaulting an Assistant Superintendent of Police, identified simply as Alimi at Aleje in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident happened on September 5 at about 9:30am while the police officer was controlling traffic.
According to an eyewitness, Adejobi who drove a minibus with number plate AGL- 85-2YA was heading towards the direction of the traffic light when the traffic warden instructed him to stop. Read more
Police arrest fake CP in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command said it had arrested one Nwagu Emmanuel for allegedly impersonating a commissioner of police to facilitate the release of a suspect from the force headquarters in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, through the command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, made this disclosure during the parade of Emmanuel along with other suspects at the Police Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday.
Owohunwa said the suspect was arrested when he approached the police headquarters in the state with a fake identification card to facilitate the release of another suspect who had earlier been nabbed for his involvement in different crimes. Read more
Court remands man for smuggling codeine, tramadol to Nigeria (Punch)
The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Friday remanded an importer, Azuka Ndujekwu, who allegedly smuggled codeine and tramadol into the country in the custody of the Nigeria Customs Service.
Justice Akintayo Aluko made the remand order following an application brought before the court for the remand of the defendant pending the conclusion of the investigation and prosecution of the case.
The NCS alleged that Ndujekwu unlawfully imported 10 cartons of Super Royal, 225 Tramadol and 754 cartons of codeine, which remained prohibited drugs. Read more
Navy nabs 3 impersonators in Lagos (Punch)
The Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, on Tuesday, paraded three personnel of a security outfit, Gallantry Intelligence Corps of Nigeria, at the Isolo area of Lagos State.
The Commander, NNS Beecroft, Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, while parading the suspects, said they were arrested after receiving reports of their alleged fraudulent activities.
Oguntuga said the agency was notified of the activities of the men who have been parading the area with posters of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral EI Ogalla, alleging that the Navy and the security outfit are collaborating and using the information to swindle the public. Read more
Police recover vehicle hijacked by Lagos killer taskforce (Punch)
A container truck hijacked on Tuesday by some yet-to-be-identified taskforce officials in the Mile 2 area of Lagos State has been traced to the office of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.
PUNCH Metro had reported that the officials killed a truck driver, identified simply as Toheeb during an illegal patrol in the area at midnight.
It was learnt that the 30-year-old victim had just departed Tincan Island when the officials who were in a branded white Hilux van accosted him at the edge of Mile 2 bridge. Read more
NDLEA intercepts ephedrine, skunk, laughing gas consignments at Lagos airport (Nation)
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted various quantities of ephedrine, skunk and nitrous oxide, popularly known as laughing gas concealed in packs of semovita and dry pepper being shipped to South Africa and Kenya through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos.
Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, said the drugs were being trafficked by members of transnational Drug Trafficking Organisations (DTO), some of whom were promptly arrested, their mansions raided and their luxury vehicles seized.
Babafemi, in a statement yesterday, said through credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives on August 25, intercepted a notorious drug trafficker, Suleiman Babatunde Oba, who is a member of a cartel distributing Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamine and Ephedrine between Nigeria, Brazil, Ghana, South Africa, Mozambique, and Europe.
