Burna Boy is a bad boy.
Bad boys thrive on being consistently bad. Like when he walked off a show hosted by Zenith bank some three years back. He’d showed up late and for some reasons told the organisers he wasn’t going to perform. He left despite the fact that the crowd was already baying for him to perform, he left, despite the fact that the organizers repeatedly reminded him he’d been fully paid for the show and so it must go on…Burna Boy drove off in a huff, leaving fans and organizers open mouthed.
Afterwards, he became the Giant of Africa and won the Grammy.
Notoriety fuels the fame of these baddies; it fuels their image, the persona that labels them bad. Now being a bad boy has its perks; he gets attention, often gets his way as no one wants to be on the flip side of a bad boy, they are nasty often disdaining their admirers.
People want to court them, walk around them on egg shells but after a while, everyone gets tired of this bad boy. “Na only you get talent?”
While some celebrities get burnt along the line; either because people get tired of their rudeness and lack of empathy; some just burn their own bridges.
And so it may be for Burna Boy.
You must have heard or read of what happened between Burna Boy and his goons at Club Cubana Victoria Island, Lagos and some club guests on June, 18, 2022. The story goes that Burna Boy had sent his men to invite a lady over to his table at the club; turns out the said lady is a married woman; her husband told the errand boy that she was his wife and should be left alone. Errand boy goes back to Burna Boy to deliver the message.
Let’s just assume Burna Boy didn’t hear him, well…you know, loud music and all at the club, so Burna Boy sent back the errand boy to invite her over again. Like, ‘What are you saying? So because she is married, I can’t have her? Com’on go and get her.’
To which the now angry husband, who must have been swearing in his native tongue against Oluwa Burna, turned back the errand boy again, this time with plenty of annoyance.
On the side, I am just glad Burna Boy didn’t order the woman be brought by force; I mean, the errand boy could have lifted her clean off the ground and dumped her right in front of Burna Boy. What would we have said?
But that didn’t happen.
What happened was that this led to fisticuffs; this led to Burna Boy’s goons pulling out their guns and showing the rest of the club guests who runs the world. A bullet grazed the head of the husband, the woman who was said to be ‘doing yanga’ (playing hard to get) by not honouring Burna Boy’s invite to his special table was flung hard on the concrete; the way Burna Boy and his goons saw it, she should have jumped as soon as the errand boy came to invite her over.
Burna Boy laughed at the fracas created in his wake; his five police escorts engaging in a free for all and when they began to lose the fight, whipped out their guns to put the fear of God in the other guests…Burna Boy took the next flight out of Nigeria to Spain!
His goons are chilling, hopefully in police cells as we speak.
Let’s hope the police will thoroughly investigate this case; let’s hope this, going forward will caution over zealous police escorts, (that will never happen but nothing wrong with hoping.)
Let’s also hope, none of the wounded die from their wounds.
What makes Burna Boy’s act so despicable is the fact that it’s a grave insult to the husband, to watch as another man consistently invites his wife to grace his table!
Has Burna Boy become Burna King? Does being giant of Africa mean he’s lost his senses?
Even African Kings of old didn’t just take other men’s wives, they sent the men off to war before doing so; this Burna Boy version is a deadly version!
A man’s wife is his pride; we all know that; and a newly married wife for that matter…by the way, I saw the photo of the woman, she fine!
So her man takes her out with friends to celebrate and it becomes wahala, so much so that two people were shot! Over what?
But you see, beyond the insult, beyond the bad boy façade, the lack of empathy so far displayed by Burna Boy, he has sown something nasty in this young marriage.
What Burna Boy has done may be the beginning of trouble for this new couple; the husband may, I hope he won’t, going forward begin to fear taking his wife out…isn’t that the reason many men fear marrying fine babes? I know I have heard men say their wives lack of beauty means other men won’t look at her!
If your wife is too fine, expect to get shot, go and ask Uriah what King David did to him!
Before you know it, husband just goes out alone…to avoid trouble. Fine wife sits at home and sulks.
Or if the fine wife gets set to go out with her husband, he gets upset over particular mode of dressing or makeup, ‘…is that not why Burna boy thought you were free the other day and was openly toasting you in my presence?’
Little issues, none significant issues can become magnified between the couple in the wake of this insult from Burna Boy and it may chip at the joy this couple should have.
I pray this never becomes an issue for this couple.
This matter should never have made it outside the club if those who could’ve done better, did. The dunce policemen attached to Burna Boy behaved like complete idiots and beat up the club guests for not allowing their boss, Burna Boy, to have his wish. Their mandate was to protect Burna Boy, they should have carried him out when they smelt trouble. That’s what trained security details would do, not beat up other fun seekers and shoot them because their principal can’t have his way with another man’s wife.
Here’s another thing for me on this matter, especially after reading about the said wife, a certain Briella Neme; your man stood up for you, girl. It’s horrifying that he also took a bullet in the process, thankfully, he will live. As for the family of Burna Boy coming to beg you, that’s what family does.
A report I read quoted Neme, “Everyone keeps making this about money. Money is not our problem. If you did nothing wrong @burnaboygram, why were your people contacting us to offer us hush money? Why did your parents visit our parents yesterday?”
That’s what parents will do; they have seen their boy misbehave and they are trying to make amends. While I know money isn’t what you need right now but an apology from the bad boy himself, I’ll say don’t disparage the family. They may get him to apologise or not. If he does, good, if not, he’ll burn himself.
