Controversial crossdresser, Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, has reportedly fallen ill while in detention at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.

After spending the night in a police cell, Bobrisky was rushed to Falomo Police Hospital for medical attention.

A source confirmed the development, stating that he was transferred from the FCID to the hospital for treatment. Read more

The World Bank, on Wednesday, revealed that Nigeria lost N13.2 trillion as a total FX subsidy between 2021 and 2023.

The Nigeria Development Update (NDU) made this disclosure in its latest report sighted by New Telegraph.

The breakdown showed that N2 trillion was lost in 2021, N6.2 trillion in 2022 and N5 trillion in 2023. Read more 

FCT: Reps summon Wike over incessant kidnapping (Sun)

House of Representatives has resolved to summon Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; Olatunji Disu, FCT commissioner of police and Adeola Ajayi, director general of the Department of State Services (DSS) over the spate of kidnaping in Abuja.

The House, at yesterday’s plenary, directed its committees on FCT and Police Affairs, National Security and Intelligence to summon all relevant stakeholders to explain to parliament their efforts to check insecurity in Abuja.

The House also mandated the FCT committee to probe the use of unpainted taxis within the FCT.

This followed the adoption of a motion of urgent importance by Dabo Haruna on the “resurgence of one chance taxi operators,” in the FCT. Read more

The federal government has dropped money laundering charges against Tigran Gambaryan, an executive of cryptocurrency firm, Binance Holdings.

The Binance Executive had been facing money laundering trial for about six months since his arrest in Nigeria.

The prosecuting agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), announced the withdrawal of the charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday. Read more

The Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned one Blessing Amaka David-Agwa, a fake fertility nurse before Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court sitting in Independence Layout, Enugu State.

The defendant was arraigned on 45-count charges bordering on alleged fraudulent impersonation, forgery and obtaining by false pretence to the tune of ₦28,278,600

Count 41 of the charge reads: “That you, Blessing Amaka David-Agwa sometime in 2024 in Enugu, within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court of Nigeria with intent to defraud, did obtain the total sum of One Million, Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N1,600,000.00) only from one Okenwa Joy Chiamaka, under the pretence of being a Medical Fertility Nurse (Specially trained to assist women get pregnant with ease) which pretext you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1) (a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act”. Nearly half of Africa’s population faces worsening governance- Report (AfricaNews)

Governance has worsened in nearly half of Africa’s countries over the past decade, according to a new report. The annual Ibrahim Index of African Governance reveals that security issues are undermining progress in many areas.

While 33 countries have seen improvements, the overall situation in 21 others has declined, affecting almost half of Africa’s population. Countries like Nigeria and Uganda have experienced a more significant drop in governance in the second half of the decade.

Mo Ibrahim, founder of the Ibrahim Foundation, highlighted a growing “arc of instability,” pointing to the security and safety challenges as the main factors behind the decline. In an interview with Reuters, Ibrahim explained that poor governance, including corruption and marginalization, often fuels violence and conflict, as seen in recent coups in West Africa and the ongoing war in Sudan. Police in Tempe, Arizona, have arrested a 60-year-old man suspected of shooting at a Democratic National Committee office over the last two months and hanging suspicious bags of white powder from politico signs in a nearby village.

Police announced the arrest late Tuesday and identified the suspect as Jeffrey Michael Kelly. He was charged with several felonies, including the unlawful discharge of a firearm, shooting at a non-residential structure and committing an act of terrorism, and misdemeanor criminal damage.

3 found dead in British care home and 4 hospitalised after ‘unexplained’ incident (ABC)

Three people were found dead Wednesday and four others were hospitalized after an “unexplained” incident at a care home in southern England, police said.

Dorset Police said they were investigating. The Gainsborough Care Home in Swanage was evacuated and there was no wider risk to the public.
