Bricklayer bags life imprisonment for defiling minor in toilet (Vanguard)
An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday sentenced a Bricklayer, Azeez Shoderu, to life imprisonment for defiling his neighbour’s eight-year-old daughter in a toilet.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Rahman Oshodi sentenced Shoderu after he found him guilty of the one-count charge of defilement proffered against him by the Lagos State Government. Oshodi held that the prosecution successfully proved the offence of defilement against the convict.
According to him, the survivor’s testimony is well corroborated with the testimony of the investigative police officer, who also testified before the court. He said the evidence of the convict was inconsistent, and all attempts to distance himself from the offence did not hold water. (Read more)
Lagos court jails bizman 2 years for drug trafficking (Punch)
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has sentenced a cross-border drug trafficker, Omoruyi Terry, to two years in prison without the option of a fine for unlawfully exporting 800 grammes of Tramadol.
Justice Ayokunle Faji handed down the sentence on Monday after Omoruyi pleaded guilty to a one-count charge filed against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
According to the prosecution, led by the NDLEA counsel, Mrs Bibiana Eze, Omoruyi was arrested on March 19, 2025, at the Terminal II Screening Hall of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, during the outward clearance of passengers on Qatar Airways Flight No. QR1406 bound for Venice via Doha. Court sentences 44-year-old man to life imprisonment for defilement (Guardian)
Justice Abiola Soladoye of a Special Offences Court in Ikeja has sentenced Oto Edet, a 44-year-old resident of Lagos, to life imprisonment for defiling his nine-year-old neighbour.
The court found Edet guilty of the offence, ruling that the prosecution had successfully proven the charge of defilement beyond a reasonable doubt. Justice Soladoye described Edet’s actions as reprehensible and criticised his conduct as a neighbour.
The judge noted that the survivor’s testimony was clear and consistent, providing compelling evidence against the defendant. She praised the prosecution for presenting a solid case, including three witnesses and four exhibits supporting the charge. Read more
2 lawyers, estate developer arraigned for forgery, demolition (Punch)
Two lawyers, Ademola Owolabi and Adebayo Akeju, were on Monday arraigned before the Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square for alleged forgery and wilful destruction of property.
They were arraigned alongside a real estate developer, Alex Ochonogor, before Justice Serifat Sonaike. The trio faced a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit forgery, forgery, and wilful destruction of property, preferred against them by the Lagos State Government under suit number LD/23611C/2024.
According to the prosecution, the defendants allegedly forged land documents and were involved in the illegal demolition of property in the Lekki area of Lagos. (Read more)
Police redeploy squad commander over N10m bribery allegation in Lagos (Guardian)
The police in Lagos have redeployed the Tactical Squad Commander of the Okokomaiko Command, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Segun Ajao, following allegations of accepting N10 million in bribes from suspected cultists and altering their charges.
The Guardian learnt that six members of the Neo Black Movement, also known as Aiye Black Axe, were arrested on March 19, 2025, in the Agric area of the community after complaints about their nocturnal activities and attacks on residents. The suspects, identified as Tayo Seton, Efe Emeakpor, Wisdom Naro, Sodiq Oladimeji, Oluwafunso Emiloju, and Emmanuel Marshal, were found with dangerous weapons, including locally made double-barrel guns, battle axes, short pistols, AK47 ammunition, and charms. They reportedly confessed to being members of the Confraternity.
The community praised the police for the arrests and urged them to continue searching for other members of the gang. (Read more)
Court jails four Filipino, eight Nigerian nationals for alleged Internet Fraud, cyber-terrorism (TVC)
Justice Yellim Bogoro of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday, convicted and sentenced four Filipino nationals who were among the 729 people arrested in connection with a ponzi scam and cyber terrorism at Oyin Jolayemi Street in December, 2024.
In this latest conviction, eight Nigerians were equally jailed for internet fraud offenses. The convicts include Reyna Mae Eriba, Chyna Samonte, Zara Fabian and Dominique Medina. Others are Chidera Ezechukwu, Favour Oluchukwu, Egwenum Ifeanyi, David Okezie, Gbenga Shittu Solomon, Ibraheem Olamilekan, Chinecherem Michael and Oghomienor Jotham.
The suspects were arraigned by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos on separate charges of cyber-terrorism and internet fraud. (Read more)
Canada returnee arrested for assaulting Lagos KAI official (Punch)
A 52-year-old Canada returnee, Morufudeen Idowu, was arrested in Lagos, after allegedly assaulting a Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps official who attempted to stop him from crossing the expressway.
The suspect, according to the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, refused to comply with lawful instructions and physically attacked an officer during routine enforcement around the busy Ojota corridor.
In a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, Wahab stated that Mr Idowu was taken into custody and will face prosecution. “Mr Morufudeen Idowu – 52yrs, a Canada returnee, refused arrest and assaulted one of our personnel while crossing the expressway at Ojota,” Wahab posted. ‘One-way’ driver kills tricyclist, flees scene – LASTMA (Vanguard)
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says a one-way SUV driver fled after colliding with a tricycle operator, resulting in the operator’s tragic death.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, made this known in a statement on Sunday by Mr Taofiq Adebayo, Director of Public Affairs. Bakare-Oki stated the fatal crash occurred at Origan, Oko-Afo, along the Badagry Expressway corridor in Lagos State.
The crash involved a commercial tricycle with registration MUS 716 QM and a Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC SUV with the custom plate “OSUNFNKE.” (Read more)
41-yr-old woman docked for alleged conspiracy, N8.8m theft (Vanguard)
A 41-year-old woman, Oluwakemi Gbadebo, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a cash sum of N8.8 million from her employer.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial before the Magistrate, Mr Lateef Owolabi, on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her.
The prosecutor, Insp Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant committed the offences from 2022 to 2024 at Remedial Health Solution Ltd., located at No. 35, Abisogun Leigh St., Ogba area of Lagos. She alleged that the defendant, who worked with the company, conspired with some others now at large and stole the sum of N8.8 million belonging to the company. (Read more)
EFCC arraigns two Lagos firms over N80m investment fraud (Punch)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Monday, has arraigned two companies, FARM360 Limited and MCBHADMOS Trans-Atlantic Trade Limited, for allegedly operating illegal capital market investment schemes.
They were arraigned the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of EFCC before Justice D.I. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
According to a statement posted on Tuesday by the anti-graft agency via its official X handle, the companies were brought before the court on a five-count charge bordering on the operation of collective investment schemes without obtaining the necessary regulatory approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria or the Securities and Exchange Commission.
