Security operatives in Kano State have apprehended one Saudat, a newly wedded bride, for allegedly stabbing her husband, Salisu, to death just 9 days after their wedding.
The tragic incident reportedly took place in Farawa community of Kano on Monday night, days after the coupleโs wedding which held on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Reports by a local radio station monitored by our correspondent revealed that the marriage was arranged by relatives of the couple but lacked mutual affection between both parties. Read more
Tinubu presents N1.78t FCT budget to NASS (Nation)
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has presented a budget of N1, 783,823,708,309 as the 2025 budget of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the National Assembly for consideration and passage.
In a letter from the President read on the floor by the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, the President said the budget presentation to the National Assembly was in line with the provisions of section 299 of the Constitution, which vests the legislative function of the FCT on the National Assembly.
He said the budget will prioritise investment in health, job creation, social welfare, increase agricultural production and capital development. Read more

EFCC grants VeryDarkMan administrative bail (Sun)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has granted administrative bail to controversial social media critic Martins Innocent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, and he will be released if his bail conditions are met.
The anti-corruption office also announced that it had arrested the social media star in response to various petitions filed against him on charges of financial crimes.
โThe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in the exercise of its mandate of tackling economic and financial crimes, invited Martins Innocent Otse owing to a series of petitions bordering on sundry issues of alleged financial crimes raised against him,โ the EFCC said. Read more

The Benue State House of Assembly on Monday passed a resolution urging its Speaker, Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, to disregard a summons issued by the National Assemblyโs Public Petitions Committee.
The summons, slated for Wednesday, May 8, 2025, had called on Governor Hyacinth Alia and Speaker Dajoh to appear before the committee to explain why the National Assembly should not invoke its constitutional powers to take over the stateโs legislative functions in light of the persistent insecurity in Benue State.

At least seven people were killed and 26 injured overnight as Kyiv and Moscow traded attacks, authorities in both countries said.
Ukrainian drones targeted Moscow for a second consecutive night, temporarily shutting all four of the capital’s main airports for several hours, while Russian forces struck Ukraine’s eastern Sumy region with guided bombs and artillery, killing three people and injuring seven, and the Black Sea port of Odessa where one person was killed.
Kharkiv Gov. Oleh Syniehubov said four people were injured in Kharkiv after it was targeted by at least 20 Russian drones over a two-hour period during the night, razing a market in the east of the city and causing damage in three other neighborhoods. Read more

A senior Hamas official has said there is “no point” in further talks on a new Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal, after Israel approved an expanded offensive that may include seizing all of the Palestinian territory indefinitely.

China gives glimpse of Fujian aircraft carrierโs catapult technology in action (SCMP)
Chinaโs state broadcaster has given a glimpse of the cutting-edge jet launch system in action on the countryโs most advanced aircraft carrier, the Fujian.
CCTV included the footage of the electromagnetic catapult system in a report last week, with a view from an unidentified aircraft hurtling along the deck.
But the report also dampened speculation that the Fujian would be ready for service this year, pointing out that the complexity of the launch system meant that it would need longer sea trials than Chinaโs other carriers, the Liaoning and Shandong. Read more

The Israeli military said it carried out airstrikes against Yemen’s Hodeidah Port on Monday (May 5), a day after the Iran-aligned Houthis fired a missile that struck near Israel’s main airport.
The military said in a statement that it attacked what it called Houthi terrorist targets in Hodeidah and its vicinity.

Two motorcycle racers have died after a crash involving 11 bikes during a British Supersport Championship race at Oulton Park in Cheshire.
