Bruno Fernandes will wear the No.18 shirt for Manchester United after completing his move to Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finally landed the Portugal international in an €80 million (£67.6m) deal from Sporting on Thursday. But United opted to not reveal the shirt number that has been assigned to Fernandes for the remainder of the season. The Portugal international wore No.8 for Sporting but that number is currently occupied by Juan Mata at Old Trafford.
However, all was revealed by Fernandes’ agent who posted a picture of himself alongside Fernandes holding United’s No.18 shirt on Instagram. Fernandes is in line to make his debut for United’s Premier League clash against Wolves on Saturday.
‘We have been tracking Bruno for many months and everyone here has been tremendously impressed with all his attributes and what he will bring to this team,’ Solskjaer said after United completed the deal. ‘Most importantly he is a terrific human being with a great personality and his leadership qualities are clear for all to see.
‘Bruno’s goals and assists stats speak for themselves, he will be a fantastic addition to our team and he will help us push on in the second part of the season.
‘The winter break is coming at a perfect time for us to integrate Bruno into the squad and for him to get to know his team-mates.’
