Ghana bans tyres for processing animals (Vanguard)
West Akyem Municipal Assembly in Ghana has passed a bye-law banning the use of flames from tyres in process meat by either households or butchers. The ban was for health and environmental reasons. The new law stipulates that “Any butcher who breaches the bye-law will be liable on conviction to a fine of between 50 and 100 penalty units (GHc600-GHc1200) or in default imprisonment to a term not exceeding six months or both”. Weak currency Saudi Arabia donate $200m to Yemen (Independent)
Saudi Arabia has pledged to donate 200 million dollars to Yemen in an effort to shore up the country’s battered currency, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday. “The grant, in addition to three billion dollars that were previously deposited in Yemen’s Central Bank, will help ease the economic burden on the Yemeni people,” SPA reported citing the Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohamed Al-Jaber. A Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Tuesday sentenced one Holy Flobert to six months imprisonment for terminating her pregnancy. The convict, of no fixed address was arraigned on a charge of act done with the intent to prevent child from being born alive. Knifeman Stabs Woman While Bathing, Gets Reprieve
A 32-year-old unemployed man, Saheed Balogun, who allegedly stabbed a woman with knife over water, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court. Balogun, who resides at Moshalasi, Alagbado, a Lagos suburb, is facing a three-count charge of breach of peace, assault and grievous harm. The accused, according to Police Prosecutor Godwin Awase, committed the offences on Sept. 17 at his residence. Read more
Police begin manhunt for killers of 2 officers in Ughelli (Vanguard)
