Jake Paul has been called out by Chris Eubank Jr after the actual boxer’s fight with Conor Benn was called off at short notice.
Eubank Jr was meant to fight Benn on Saturday in a highly anticipated clash between the two British boxers. However, the fight has since been postponed after Benn failed a drugs test.
Paul and Eubank Jr have been involved in Twitter beef previously, and the YouTube star was quick to respond to the situation, claiming he’s excited to discover more detail about the cancelled fight within the coming weeks. And in an attempt to still put on a show for the thousands of fans that have bought tickets, Eubank Jr has given Paul the chance to take Benn’s place.
Paul initially tweeted: “I can’t wait to see all of the texts and emails between Eddie Hearn and all the parties involved in this fiasco.” And Eubank Jr bit back, giving Paul a huge opportunity to headline the event instead.
“How about I get you a jet to the U.K tomorrow and we scrap at the 02 on Saturday for the fans that are now missing out because Conor Benn fumbled AND crumbled under the pressure,” Eubank Jr tweeted. He even gave him leverage at shot notice, adding: “You come in as heavy as you want.”
Paul has suffered cancelled events of his own, as his projected bout with Tommy Fury has now failed to come to fruition on two occasions. Paul is now fighting UFC legend Anderson Silva on October 29, but is yet to reply to Eubank Jr.
It looks like Saturday’s show could now be a huge let down, with thousands of fans making arrangements to travel to the O2, while others have already spent money on pay per view buys. But the fight has been called off after Benn returned an “adverse analytical finding” for fertility drug clomiphene in August after a test taken by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (Vada).
The World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) has banned the drug as it can used to boost testosterone levels in men. A statement read: “After discussions with various parties, we have taken the decision to formally postpone the bout between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn.
“It is undeniable that the British Boxing Board of Control’s decision to withdraw their sanctioning was procedurally flawed and without due process. That remains a legal issue between the promoters and the Board which we intend to pursue.
“However, whilst there are legal routes to facilitate the fight taking place as planned, we do not believe that it is in the fighters’ interests for those to be pursued at such a late stage, or in the wider interests of the sport. As promoters, we take our obligations and duties very seriously, and a full investigation will now need to take place.” (Mirror)
