Christmas: MTN Foundation set to have everyone singing like never before
Christmas is coming and the MTN Foundation will have you singing like no other
It’s that time of the year again. We will start seeing the world in colours of christmas – red, green and all things shiny! Then the carols will follow with many people singing ‘off-key versions’ of Christmas songs and ruining ‘Noel’ for us.
But we have your back as always – we will teach you a couple of the fun tips we learnt at the MTN Foundation sponsored masterclass for MUSON students. You can drag your friend with the off-key voice here too.
L-R: Ellen McAteer and Daniel Taylor, during the masterclass
On October 31st, 2018, we sat quietly at the MUSON centre, Onikan, Lagos, as Daniel Taylor, a countertenor and Ellen Mcateer, a two-time recipient of the Richard Bradshaw Graduate Fellowship in Opera, took us through a master class for Opera singers. So, we decided to hold on to some cool singing tips from the masters.

You need to hydrate very often to sing well. You see, the voice is an instrument that needs to be oiled.
And now, to our favourite tip of all – squat a bit when you are about to hit a high note!
We didn’t just come up with that…. We listened to Taylor tell a student to do just that and her already beautiful voice transformed to ‘amazing’ right in front of us.
If the masters have said ‘squat’, who are we to say otherwise?
All in all, it was fun to attend and be surrounded by that much talent.
