Court remands tricyclist for allegedly raping teenager (Vanguard)
An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 21- year-old man, Micheal Sude, at Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly raping a teenage girl.
The defendant, a tricyclist, who resides at 2, Akinola Awofeso Street, Bariga, Lagos State, is facing a one-count charge of rape.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, who refused to take the defendant’s plea ordered him to be remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre. Read more
Mohbad: Police to exhume body for investigation (Vanguard)
Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa, yesterday, inaugurated a 13-man Special Investigation Team to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Nigerian singer and Naira Marley’s former protege, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly called Mohbad, on September 12, in Lagos.
This came as Nigerian celebrities and aggrieved fans of Mohbad are taking to the streets this morning to demand justice for the late singer.
The protests, which kicked off in Akure, Ondo State, yesterday, are expected to spread to other states.
Meanwhile, the team headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Saheed Kassim, is expected to, among other terms of reference, exhume Mohbad’s body and carry out autopsy as well as conduct toxicology and histology tests on it, according to Owohunwa. Read more
Court admits FBI report claiming Mompha used iPhone for ‘‘N6b fraud’’ (Vanguard)
An Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos, has admitted more documents in evidence against Ismaila Mustapha, the socialite better known as Mompha.
Mompha alongside Ismalob Global Investment Limited, his company, are facing an eight-count charge of conspiracy to launder funds obtained through unlawful activity, retention of proceeds of criminal conduct, laundering of funds obtained through unlawful activity, failure to disclose assets and property, possession of documents containing false pretence and use of property derived from an unlawful act.
At the resumed hearing in the matter on Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, through its counsel, Suleiman Suleiman, presented two documents, including a letter by the commission to the United States of America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, and an investigative report by the bureau.

Three self-confessed killers of late Adeniyi Sanni, the senior aide to the senator representing Ogun West in the National Assembly, Solomon Adeola, have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.
The suspects, all ex-convicts, were arrested in different parts of the South West after what the command boss, CP Idowu Owohunwa, described as a painstaking and diligent investigative set of actions. They were paraded, yesterday, at the command headquarters, Ikeja.
Preliminary investigation, according to Owohunwa, revealed that the trio of Okunnu Fred, 43; Lucky Idudu, 33 and Adedigba Segun were not military personnel after all. Read more
Court sentences guard to life imprisonment for defiling minor (Punch)
The Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja on Wednesday, sentenced a 42-year-old Chief Security Officer of a company, Daniel Okon, to life imprisonment for defiling a four-year-old girl.
Justice Abiola Soladoye held that the prosecution was able to prove the offence of defilement against the convict without reasonable doubt.
Okon was arraigned on a count of defilement of a minor preferred against him by the state. Read more
Power-drunk Lagos policemen invade Lekki shop, arrest attendant, plot charges (Punch)
A team of policemen attached to the Ikoyi Police Station has been accused of assaulting the worker of a clothing shop, Dash Me Stores at Muiz Banire Street, in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the officers who were led by one Inspector Funmi Odukoya carried out the act on the instruction of a dissatisfied client, Juwareto Okaisabor.

59-year-old man gets life imprisonment for raping 2 daughters (Punch)
The Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja on Monday sentenced a 59-year-old artisan, Eze Chukwuma, who defiled his two daughters for nine years to double life imprisonment.
Justice Abiola Soladoye who handed down the verdict held that the prosecution sufficiently proved the two counts bordering on defilement against Chukwuma.
The judge stated that the testimonies of prosecution witnesses were corroborated with that of the victims. Read more
Islamic teacher jailed 21 years for sexually assaulting pupil (Punch)
An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday sentenced an Islamic teacher, Obasanmi Waliyullahi, to 21 years imprisonment for attempting to commit sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of his 15-year-old pupil, (name withheld).
The convict was handed down the sentence by Justice Rahman Oshodi following his guilty plea to the two amended charges of attempted sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child.
The judge convicted and sentenced Waliyullahi to 14 years imprisonment for the first count of attempting to commit sexual assault by penetration and seven years for the second count of indecent treatment of a child. Read more
Louts attack Lagos officials, injure police officer (Punch)
A female mobile police officer attached to the Lagos State Building Control Agency was on Monday injured during an attack by some louts at the scene of the collapsed building at Agboye Estate on Oduntan street in the Ketu area of the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident happened while the officials of LASBCA were enforcing the eviction notice issued to the occupants of the collapsed building.
It was learnt that the louts stormed the area to challenge the officials who were carrying out their duties. This later degenerated into a confrontation between them. Read more
Suspected cultists kill transport worker in Lagos (Punch)
Cult members suspected to be on a revenge mission have killed a transport worker, Taofeek Kotun, at Ado community in the Ajah area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident happened on Monday when the deceased victim paid a visit to her mother-in-law’s house in the community.

Residents in the Akerele and Atobaje communities in the Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State are currently gripped with fear over the high rate of crime in the areas.
Our correspondent, who visited the community on Wednesday, learnt that residents were always scared when walking on the street, especially at night, because of the presence of fierce-looking louts who were always under the influence of hard drugs or alcohol.
