The federal high court in Lagos rose from its Thursday ruling slamming N10 million damages on the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for breaching the fundamental rights of #EndSARS protesters.

Justice Musa Kakaki accused the police of violating the fundamental rights of the protesters who had gathered at the Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2024, to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the #EndSARS demonstrations.

Recall Lagos state police command arrested at least 20 demonstrators at Lekki Toll gate and detained them in a police van for several hours before releasing them without charge.

The applicants had sought redress for what they described as unlawful arrest and violation of their constitutional rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. Read more

The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, was briefly held by immigration officials at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday morning while trying to board a flight to the United Kingdom.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was said to have arrived at the international terminal with her husband, Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan, only to be stopped and told that she could not travel because her name had been placed on a watch list.

After nearly an hour, she was cleared to board her British Airways flight. Read more

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has emerged as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He was sworn in at exactly 2:52 PM and took the oath of office on Thursday.

VDMโ€™s trial over alleged cyberbullying of Iyabo Ojo, Tonto Dikeh adjourned (Vanguard)

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, adjourned the trial of controversial social media influencer, Martins Otse, popularly called VeryDarkMan (VDM), for allegedly cyberbullying actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh, until Dec. 2.

The court fixed the date after the trial judge, Justice Musa Liman, presided over some cases on the cause list and rose.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Inspector-General (I-G) of Police had, on May 15, re-arraigned VDM on five-count charge bordering on alleged cyberbullying, cybercrime, etc. Read more 

FG unveils national standards for auto gas, electric vehicle maintenance (Tribune)

The federal government on Thursday unveiled National Occupational Standards (NOS) for conversion, calibration and maintenance of Auto Gas-powered vehicles as well as the National Occupational Standards for Electric vehicles service and maintenance.

Speaking in Abuja after the unveiling, the Minister of State for Industry, Sen. John Enoh emphasised the need for the standards as a means of preventing unpleasant events within the sector.

The Minister said Nigeria sits on gas reserves that are far more than even the oil reserves that the country has, calling for the need for a regulatory mode of operation. Read more 

LPPC shortlists 57 for SAN rank (Punch)

The Legal Practitionersโ€™ Privileges Committee has shortlisted a total of 57 candidates for consideration for the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

Among those shortlisted are 56 legal practitioners and one academic, as stated in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja and authored by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Akanbi.

The statement noted that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, at the 169th Plenary Session held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, approved the elevation of the 57 candidates to the esteemed rank. Read more

Scientists are developing artificial blood that could save lives in emergencies (NPR)

Tens of thousands of people bleed to death each year in the United States before they can get to a hospital. That’s because ambulances, medical helicopters and military medics can’t routinely carry blood, which would go bad too fast without adequate refrigeration.

So scientists have been on a quest to develop artificial blood that could be stored in powdered form and reconstituted by medics on the spot to save lives.

At the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, where some of this research is being conducted, a white rabbit lies on the floor of a cage. It’s in a “special intensive care unit that we’ve created for our rabbit resuscitation,” says Dr. Allan Doctor, a scientist at the school. Read more
