Queues to persist at filling stations until depots restock, marketers say (Tribune)
Some petroleum marketers have said fuel scarcity will persist in Lagos and other parts of the country until depots are restocked with adequate and quality products.
The marketers, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the condition of anonymity, blamed the current scarcity on the supply of a wrong specification of petrol in some parts of the country.
They noted that the directive to withdraw the product from the market even after distribution to many filling stations across Lagos and other areas created a supply shortfall, thereby leading to panic buying.
“As we speak, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd is working to ensure that this disruption to the supply chain is addressed as soon as possible. However, there is the challenge of logistics and how to compensate those who were supplied with the adulterated products.
“The NNPC is working with marketers on this and once the depots are restocked, tankers will start loading and supply will improve across the country. Read more

Michael Jackson biopic coming from creators of Bohemian Rhapsody and Gladiator (USAToday)
A biopic about Michael Jackson is in the works from Oscar-winning “Bohemian Rhapsody” producer Graham King and “Gladiator” screenwriter John Logan. Lionsgate will handle the worldwide distribution of the film, the studio’s chair Joe Drake said Monday.
The studio said that the film will give, “an in-depth portrayal of the complicated man who became the King of Pop” and that it will bring to life his “most iconic performances as it gives an informed insight into the entertainer’s artistic process and personal life.” Also producing are John Branca and John McClain, who are co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate.
The Jackson business has been on the upswing of late, including the recently launched Broadway musical “ MJ: The Musical,” following a series of court victories that brought an end to serious legal crises.
The 2019 HBO documentary “Leaving Neverland” raised child molestation allegations anew. The once-dead lawsuits brought by the two men featured in it had been revived by changes in the law. And a decision in the estate’s appeal of a $700 million tax bill was taking years to arrive. Both accusers’ lawsuits were dismissed and a ruling in the tax case slashed the bill dramatically. New Zealand Māori party calls for a ‘divorce’ from Britain’s royal family (Guardian)
The Māori party of New Zealand has called for a “divorce” from the crown and removal of the British royal family as New Zealand’s head of state.
The call came on the 182nd anniversary of the signing of the treaty of Waitangi, or Te Tiriti o Waitangi, New Zealand’s foundational legal document.
“If you look at our founding covenant as a marriage between tangata whenua [indigenous people] and the crown, then Te Tiriti is the child of that marriage. It’s time [for] tangata whenua to take full custody,” Māori Pāti co-leader Rawiri Waititi said. “This won’t mean the crown is off the hook. If a couple gets divorced, you don’t lose responsibility for your child. This will be an opportunity to reimagine a more meaningful and fulfilling partnership,” he said.
The treaty guaranteed Māori the crown’s protection of their land rights. But in the 100 years that followed its signing, Māori lost more than 90% of their land through a mixture of outright confiscation by the crown, private or government sales, and land court practices that did not recognise collective ownership. Domenicali expects Hamilton to return ‘fully charged’ (Planet F1)
Stefano Domenicali viewed Lewis Hamilton’s return to social media as a highly encouraging sign for the 2022 Formula 1 campaign.
Although Hamilton’s post comprising an image of himself in the Grand Canyon and the words “I’ve been gone, now I’m back” was not an explicit statement about his future, that and a subsequent tweet from Mercedes inferred the Briton will be on the grid this season.
Hamilton said over the team radio he thought the result, which ended with Max Verstappen taking victory and the title, had been “manipulated” – and Mercedes were furious at the management of the grand prix’s closing stages by race director Michael Masi.
But all the signals that are pointing towards Hamilton having banished any thoughts of retirement and coming back for a crack at a record-breaking eighth F1 title, are giving off the right vibes as far as the sport’s CEO, Domenicali, is concerned. Read more
