Police arrest ex-convict with gun in Lagos (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Police command have arrested an ex-convict over illegal possession of firearms.
The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos. He said operatives of the Ijede Division apprehended the suspect on Monday in the Ikorodu area of the state.

Lagos task force impounds 668 motorcycles, arrests seven suspects (Guardian)
The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, popularly known as the Lagos Task Force, has impounded 668 motorcycles during a week-long enforcement exercise across the state.
The operation, led by the agency’s Chairman, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adetayo Akerele, covered several flashpoints, including Ishaga, Balogun Bus Stop on Iju-Ishaga Road, Ijegun Roundabout, Iyana-Iba, Iyana-Ishasi, Igbo-Elerin, Iyana-School, Volkswagen Bus Stop on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, and Kola Bus Stop on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
According to the agency’s Director of Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the targeted areas were flagged following numerous complaints and distress calls over the persistent use of motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, by hoodlums and suspected criminals to attack commuters, tricycle operators and their passengers, particularly at night. Lagos arrests 2, seals event centre over waste burning (Punch)
Lagos State Government said it has arrested two suspects and sealed a Grace Garden Event Place at Bisola Durosinmi-Etti Drive, Lekki, for illegally burning waste.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Tuesday.
He explained that the Lagos Waste Management Authority’s enforcement team arrested both suspects on Monday night while they were burning refuse at the event centre. He urged residents and business owners to avoid illegal waste practices, noting that offenders will face prosecution under the law. (Read more)
Court sentences two drug kingpins to 10 years in prison, NDLEA hails verdict (Guardian)
Two notorious drug kingpins have been convicted and sentenced to a combined 10 years imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Lagos. Ajetsibo Emami, 37, popularly known as ‘Warri Kinsman’, and Solomon Akpomuai, 51, were sentenced following separate drug trafficking charges.
Emami was arrested in Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, after NDLEA operatives dismantled his drug trafficking network in a three-day operation that led to the arrest of three other suspects.
Recovered from Emami’s network were 24 jumbo bags containing 681 pouches of Canadian Loud, a strain of cannabis weighing 414.2 kilogrammes. The bust of Emami’s drug ring followed credible intelligence on his attempt to move the shipment to the Lekki area of Lagos, from where it would be distributed to other parts of the state and across the country. One dies as SUV rams into commercial bus at Mile 2 (TheNation)
A road accident occurred on Monday at Volkswagen bus stop, inward Mile 2, Lagos, claiming the life of a motorist after a Toyota Highlander (APP 150 EY) rammed into a stationary commercial bus.
The incident, which happened in the early hours of the day, involved a Highlander SUV reportedly traveling at high speed before losing control and colliding with a painted T4 commercial bus (KJA 328 XH) indiscriminately picking up passengers along the roadside.
The driver of the SUV died instantly from the impact. Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly arrived at the scene, secured the area, and evacuated the victim’s remains from the wreckage. (Read more)
Police arrest notorious ‘One Chance’ kingpin, 2 others in Lagos (TVC)
Operatives of the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a notorious “one chance” kingpin and two members of his gang during a routine patrol along Agege Motor Road.
The suspects — Bode Oludayisin, 53, Michael Sowunmi, 22, and David Olawaye, 20 — were caught after a victim raised an alarm while being robbed inside the gang’s minibus.
Police confirmed that Oludayisin is a wanted ringleader linked to a series of violent “one chance” robberies across Lagos.
The suspects were intercepted in an unregistered commercial minibus, which has been identified as their operational vehicle. (Read more)
11 rescued from traffickers, cultists arrested, electrician dies in Lagos (Guardian)
The Lagos State Police Command has rescued 11 victims of human trafficking and arrested four suspects allegedly involved in recruiting and transporting young Nigerians to Ghana for prostitution.
According to the command, operatives of the Ilemba Hausa Division intercepted and arrested a suspect, Mustapha Abubakar, on August 13, 2025. Abubakar, believed to be an okada operator and recruiter, was found with a 15-year-old girl who was about to be trafficked to Ghana for prostitution.
The case was transferred to Special Squad I, which, acting on intelligence, launched a manhunt that led to the arrest of 54-year-old Charles Chima in Amuwo Odofin, 36-year-old Emmanuel Nwaka along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, and 21-year-old Princess John in Ojota. (Read more)
Police crush armed robber operating from Lagos refuse dump (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have killed a suspected armed robber operating from a refuse dump in the Abule Egba area of the state.
A police source told PUNCH Metro on Thursday that the suspect, identified simply as Blessing, was gunned down in the early hours of the day.
According to the source, detectives stormed the refuse dump in the Kantagua area of the community at about 1:30 am.
However, on sighting the operatives, Blessing was said to have opened fire, thereby forcing the police to respond. (Read more)
6 arrested over murder in Lagos cult clash (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists in connection with the killing of one Kamoru aka Keeper during a clash in the Ebute Meta area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement sent to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, stated that the suspects were apprehended on July 17, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation by detectives attached to the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit in the Surulere area of the state.
According to Hundeyin, those arrested include Raphael Ashim, 30; Wasiu Kareem, 33; Sadiq Olabisi, 40; Olamilekan Oluwatosin, 27; Olalekan Olugbodi, 54; and Ibrahim Oladimeji, 22. (Read more)
Police arrest 2 suspected cultists in Lagos, recover pistol (Guardian)
Operatives of the Police Command in Lagos State have detained two suspected cultists for alleged unlawful possession of a pistol.
