Pandemonium broke out on Monday at Owo town, the headquarters of Owo local government area of Ondo State as a result of a shootout by suspected members of two rival cult gangs which led to the death of about four people in the ancient town.
Commercial activities were grounded as shops were hurriedly locked up in fear of reprisal attacks by the cultists as a result of the killings.
A source who do not want his name mentioned hinted that the violence could be linked to a feud that dates back to over a decade, during which several residents lost their lives in gang clashes. Read more
Fubara can transact business with 3 lawmakers — Court (Channels)
The Rivers State High Court has ruled that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is legally empowered to transact business with the three lawmakers who have not vacated their seats in the state house of assembly.
This was contained in a court decision given on the 20th of December during which presiding judge Sika Aprioku dismissed a suit seeking to compel the governor to represent the 2024 budget to the Martin Amaewhule-led assembly.
The said suit marked PHC/3552/CS/2024 was filed by the Registered Trustees of the Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners and had the Government of Rivers State, the governor of Rivers State, and the Attorney General of the state as defendants. It sought to compel the governor to represent the 2024 budget to the 27 lawmakers led by Amaewhule for passage into law. Read more

Abaribe who stated this on Sunday, January, 5th, when he alongside his wife paid Governor Alex Otti a Christmas and New Year visit, said that his concern as well as that of his colleagues is the development of the South East and to ensure that the South East is not left behind while the rest of Nigeria is moving on.

The daughter of the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government lost her life while trying to rescue her children from the fire that gutted their house around 12 midnight on Sunday.
Her husband who is the current permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Sport and Youth Development, Alhaji Muhammadu Yusuf Bello, was said to be away when the tragic incident occurred.
The house located at Nakasari area was completely destroyed by the fire which was said to have extended to parts of their neighbour’s houses before it was put off by the combined efforts of fire fighters, residents and passersby. Read more

Outcry over persistent power outage in Epe (Tribune)
Following the incessant power outage and vandalisation of electricity cables in Epe town, Lagos State, concerned residents have called on government to wade into the situation and restore power supply.
The residents have also commenced a 30-day online protest, calling on Ikeja Disco to act fast and restore electricity to the entire Epe Division.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has introduced a new initiative that allows students to resit their West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), exams as early as January and February 2025.
This change is a departure from the previous system, where candidates had to wait for the next private exam session.
The Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, made the revelation in a statement.
