Cultists shoot rival dead in Lagos restaurant, suspects nabbed (Punch)

Three suspected members of the Klansman Confraternity have been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly shooting a member of the Eiye Confraternity, Akinola Ayegbusi, to death at a restaurant in the Alapere area of the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered that normal activities were ongoing when the suspects, who were said to be on a revenge mission, trailed Ayegbusi to the front of the restaurant.

After spotting him, the suspects, who were armed with guns and cutlasses, allegedly shot Ayegbusi. In a bid to escape, the victim ran into the restaurant.

Thereafter, the suspects, numbering six, were seen in a video clip captured by the Closed-Circuit Television installed on the premises of the restaurant, shooting and using cutlasses to hack Ayegbusi till he died. Read more

Robbers steal 76 phones, N4.80m property in Lagos (Punch)

A 50-year-old man, Kazeem Bamidele, has been arraigned at the Ogba Magistrate’s Court, Ikeja, Lagos State, for stealing several phones from unsuspecting members of the public in the state.

The defendant alongside others still at large was arraigned on a five-count bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The charges read in part, “That you Kazeem Bamidele, aka Elewure, and others still at large, on July 9, 2022, around 10.30pm at Ajegunle, in the Ajeromi area of Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did dishonestly receive one iPhone 12 pro max valued at N520,000.00 property of one Ojobaro Michael.

“That you Kazeem Bamidele, aka Elewure, and others still at large on July 9, 2022, around 10.30pm at Ajegunle, in the Ajeromi area of Lagos, in the Lagos State Magisterial District, did steal 76 different types of phones from unsuspected victims.” Read more

Lagos man arrested for robbing online vendors (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Olumide Agboola for robbing online vendors in the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Monday, said the suspect’s modus operandi was to pose as a genuine buyer on social media platforms, order items and request vendors to supply the items at designated hotels, where he would then rob them.

He said, “Police operatives attached to the Makinde Division have arrested 44-year-old Olumide Agboola, who is notorious for robbing online vendors.

“He was arrested following a painstaking investigation which was launched after a number of reports were received about his activities. Different CCTV footages at his various crime scenes have aided in the irrefutable identification of the suspect.

Lagos female suspect alleges assault during interrogation (Punch)

A defendant, Abiodun Lawal, has narrated to Chief Magistrate Lateef Owolabi of the Ogba Magistrate’s Court, Ikeja, Lagos State, how a police Inspector, Segun Adepoju, allegedly slapped and made her sign a statement not written by her under duress.

Lawal, while narrating her ordeal in court on Friday said the incident happened during an interrogation at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, in the Yaba area of the state.

The 39-years-old, alongside one Deborah Ajayi, 46, and others still at large were said to be facing trial bordering on two counts for allegedly conspiring to commit a felony to wit stealing.

The charge read in part, “That you, Deborah Ajayi, Abiodun Lawal, and others at large between February 10, 2021, and August 24, 2021, around 11am at Oshodi Market, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal fabrics valued Fifty Million Naira (N50,000,000.00) property of Bol. Tayo Store, represented by Adebola Oyenekan, and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 280 and punishable under section 287(1)(a)(b)(7) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

Man remanded for sodomising minor in Lagos (Punch)

A 28-year-old man, Aina Adebayo, has been remanded in custody for allegedly sodomising a minor in the Ipaja area of Lagos State.

Adebayo, who was said to be facing a one-count bordering on sexual assault, was arraigned before an Ebute Metta Magistrate’s Court.

The charge read in part, “That you, Aina Adebayo, sometime in 2021, at Saint Doregas Private Academy, Akin-Ogun, Ipaja Road, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did penetrate sexually the anus of the victim without his consent.”

The prosecutor, Supol Paul, said the defendant committed an offence punishable under section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Read more

NDLEA arrests grandpa, intercepts 2.3m drugs shipment (Punch)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Sunday confirmed the arrest of a 63-year-old grandfather, Afolabi Kolawole, for shipping illicit substances to his daughter, Barakat, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The spokesperson for the agency, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, said Kolwawole, who was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, during interrogation, confessed to concealing the illicit substances inside black native soap before shipment to his daughter in Dubai.

He said, “A major importer of loud variant of cannabis from the United States, Abibu Afis Sola and a 63-year-old grandfather who ships illicit substances to his daughter in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, are among those arrested by NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos.

“Abibu was arrested in connection with a 19.30kg Colorado consignment from Los Angeles, USA, which was intercepted on June 30, at the NAHCO cargo import shed of the Lagos airport. While Abibu was still being interviewed in custody, a 37.1kg consignment of Loud intercepted on July 7 was also traced to him. Read more

Lagos council boss’ aide killed, police begin probe (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command, on Sunday, said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the killers of Francis Oguntulu, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area Chairman, Kehinde Oloyede.

Oguntulu was shot at and axed on Adeyemi Street, in the Oshodi area of the state, on Friday. He died on Sunday as a result of the injuries he sustained during the attack.

This was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the media office of the LG boss.

Mourning his aide, the council chairman, Oloyede, said, “We have lost a loyal, jovial and everly friendly man to the cold hands of death. The death came to us as a rude shock. We appeal to the Lagos police to unravel the cause of his death and ensure those behind the dastardly act are brought to book to serve as a deterrent to those planning evil acts. Read more

Vandal caught with 12 solar batteries in Lagos (Punch)

Policemen attached to the Meiran Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested one Emmanuel Aaron, for vandalising a telecommunication mast in the Meiran area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Sunday, said the 35-year-old suspect was found with 12 solar batteries.

He said, “The suspect, who was arrested on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, around 3.05am, in response to a distress call about the presence of vandals at the mast, was found with 12 solar batteries already loaded in their operational bus, a Ford with number plate FKJ 519 YF.

“His conspirators took to their heels upon sighting the policemen. Investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing conspirators. The suspect would be arraigned at the conclusion of investigations. Read more

Lagos police arrest suspects in Oguntulu’s murder (Guardian)

Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, arrested suspects in connection to the murder of Francis Olagoke Oguntulu, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Council, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede.

The Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest on Monday, said the commissioner of police, Abiodun Alabi, has called for calm and promised safety of life and property in the area and in the whole of Lagos.”

 He said: “We have  arrested some of the people that were at the party so that they can throw more light on what happened. That is what we are doing currently.

“The case is at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti, and the perpetrators will be brought to book.” Read more

NDLEA intercepts 249,600 Tramadol tabs at Lagos airport, arrests freight agent (Guardian)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 249,600 tablets of Tramadol (225mg) from a shipment from India at the Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc (SAHCO) import shed of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos.

The Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

Babafemi said that the consignment arrived from India via Addis Ababa on Ethiopian Airline flight on Aug. 4.

He said it was eventually evacuated on Wednesday as an abandoned seizure.

Oro worshippers, church members clash during vigil in Lagos (DailyTrust)

One person was killed while others sustained injuries when Oro worshippers and some church members clashed in Lagos state.

Oro festival is peculiar to Yoruba people of South West Nigeria. A curfew is declared when Oro is meant to parade a community and females are confined indoors.

It is taboo for females to set eyes on the deity. The restriction also extends to males that are non-initiates and non-natives.
