The Lagos State Police Command has charged three suspects to court for allegedly beating a prostitute, Hannah Saliu, to death and setting her corpse ablaze for keeping the Holy Quran in her room.
PUNCH Metro gathered that one of the suspects patronised Saliu and after having sex with her, he reportedly paid her N1,000 for the service.
The customer was said to have left her room when she suddenly discovered that her N5,000 had gone missing.
She reportedly ran after the customer and accused him of stealing her money. Read more
Burna Boy faces police probe for the second time in six years (Guardian)
Nigerian artiste, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy will face police questioning for the second time in six years.
The Grammy award winner is facing questioning from the police over alleged shootings that occurred from security operatives attached to him at club Cubana last week Wednesday.
In November 2017, the artist was invited by Lagos State Police Command over alleged robbery investigation.
Lagos State Police Commissioner’s Special Squad has detained five policemen attached to the singer for attempted murder following the shooting of fun seekers at the Lagos club.
The names of those allegedly shot in the incident are: Irebami Lawrence and another fun seeker identified simply as Tolu. Read more
Lebanese driver faces manslaughter as crushed Lagos lady dies (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command says it will amend the charges against the Lebanese driver, John Greg, who crushed a lady, Omotola Akinsanya, while driving against traffic on Sanusi Fafunwa Street, in the Victoria Island area of the state.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the amended charges will reflect the new reality now that the lady has died.
“The case is already in court and now that the lady has died, we are going to amend the charges to reflect the new reality. We may charge him with manslaughter,” Hundeyin said.
The PUNCH gathered that the deceased’s brother, identified as @wellzpapi, announced the death of the 31-year-old on Twitter. Read more
Christabel death: Hospital appeals for calm as investigation commences (Vanguard)
Following social media reports that late Christabel Miriam Gabriel died during a hip surgery in Lagos, the management of the Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Clinics where the surgery was carried out has refuted the claims, appealing to the family and all interested parties for calm and to await the result of the ongoing investigation by the Lagos State Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency, HEFAMAA, and the Police.
The social media platforms have been agog with the purported death of a Port Harcourt Socialite, Christabel Miriam Gabriel during a hip surgery in Lagos. While friends of the deceased claimed that she died out of medical negligence, the hospital management said the patient died four days after the surgery.
Giving his own account to journalists in Lagos, a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Dr Ogbe Joehness Omoruyi who conducted the surgery said: “Let me once again express my heartfelt and deepest condolences to the elderly parents, the siblings, relatives, friends, and well-wishers of our late client. It is on a very sad note that I comment on the demise of our dear client which occurred on 31 May 2022.
“While I will ensure that I do not reveal details of the medical information and history of our client, it has equally become necessary I respond to certain unfounded insinuations, misinformation, and accusations going around, following her passing. Read more
Court remands woman in prison for assaulting LASAA staff (Guardian)
A magistrate sitting in Ogudu area of Lagos State last week remanded the owner of Fizak Fashion, Mrs. Olufisayo Gloria Nukasi in Kirikiri prison, pending the fulfilment of her N100,000 bail condition.
Nukasi was arraigned before her Lordship, Mrs. O.A. Daudu, for assaulting a staff of Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), to which she pleaded not guilty.
The incident reportedly took place on May 26, 2022, in Magodo Government Reserved Area (GRA), while the staff of the Agency was carrying out her lawful duties at the business location.
The officer allegedly approached the accused to confirm the payment of her new business sign, which was due for registration. In an attempt to evade the Agency’s compliance, the accused allegedly slapped, harassed and threatened to beat the visiting official of LASAA, who remained civil. Read more

In a video that has gone viral now, Omolara was captured as she threw a bottle at Mercy who screamed helplessly.

Kwara: Court remands 2 for stealing 450 chickens (DailyTrust)
Two suspects, Jacob Peter and Baba Ochi, have been remanded by an Ilorin magistrates’ court in Kwara State for stealing 450 chickens on a farm in Lasoju, Asa LGA.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Iwaloye AbdulRauf, told the court that the incident which occurred on June 4, 2022, led to their arrest by a vigilante, Yusuf Samuel, who handed them over to the police.
Peter pleaded guilty to the charge and told the court he could not remember the exact number of chickens they stole.
Ochi on his part, said he was innocent and didn’t use to go with him (Peter) to steal the chickens. He, however, admitted that they used to eat them together after any successful operation by Peter. Read more
Affordable homes: Lagos provides 4,896 units to new homes owners (Vanguard)
Lagos State Government has provided additional number of 4,896 decent homes to beneficiaries of its various housing schemes across the state.
It, therefore, urged beneficiaries to make determined efforts to keep the government-owned property well preserved and properly maintained.
Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, gave the charge recently, in Alausa, Ikeja, while handing over keys and title documents to new homeowners at the Babatunde Olushola Benson Estate, Ibeshe, and LagosHOMS, Sangotedo Phase I, in Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.

VP: PDP narrows choice to 3 South South govs (Sun)
Indications emerged, yesterday, that the search for a vice presidential candidate for Atiku Abubakar, flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 poll, might have narrowed to Governors Nyosom Wike, Ifeanyi Okowa and Udom Emmanuel of Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom states, respectively.
Daily Sun learnt that barring any last minute re-think, the special panel set up by the opposition party to shop for Atiku’s vice would submit the names today in its report as probable candidates for consideration by the party leadership and its flag bearer.
It was gathered that Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu and his Enugu counterpart, Ifeanyi Ugwanyi as well as former governor of Enugu and Imo states, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani and Emeka Ihedioha, respectively were considered as Atiku’s running mate, but were not shortlisted.
Ikpeazu and Ugwuanyi, were reportedly dropped due to their low popularity with others governors of the party, who preferred Wike and Okowa as candidates likely to attract votes for the party in the general election next year.
Sources said the PDP leadership after receiving the committee’s report and conferring with its presidential candidate, may unveil one of the South South governors as its vice presidential candidate today or tomorrow. Read more
Britney Spears’ ex Jason Alexander charged with stalking her at wedding

A man once briefly married to Britney Spears was charged Monday (June 13) with felony stalking after showing up at the pop star’s wedding to longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari.
Jason Alexander, 40, pleaded not guilty in Ventura County court to the charge, along with misdemeanor counts of trespassing, vandalism and battery.
Alexander remained jailed, and appeared in court via video conference. A judge set his bail at $100,000 and issued a restraining order requiring him to stay at least 100 yards from Spears for three years.
Alexander was Spears’ first husband. The two were married for less than three days in 2004 before an annulment. Read more

Former US President Donald Trump has blasted the congressional inquiry into the Capitol riot as a “Kangaroo Court”.
In a 12-page statement, he said the investigation was designed to distract Americans from the “disaster” of Democratic-led governance.
It came after the committee held two public hearings accusing Mr Trump of an attempted coup to remain in power.
The panel on Monday detailed evidence of divisions among Trump aides over whether to accept his election loss.

A former farmer has been accused of dumping his wife’s body into a septic tank while having a ‘long-standing affair’.
89-year-old David Venables ‘got away with murder’ for nearly 40 years, Worcester Crown Court heard today.
He is alleged to have killed ‘prim and proper’ Brenda Venables before hiding her body in a septic tank not far from their home in Worcestershire.
Mrs Venables’ remains were only discovered in the underground chamber – in what was once a ‘rough’, overgrown and ‘secluded’ spot – 37 years after she vanished in 1982. Read more

An Oregon judge has sentenced Nancy Crampton Brophy, a romance author who apparently foretold of her crime in an essay titled “How to murder your husband”, to life in prison for the shooting death of her late spouse.
Crampton Brophy, 71, was found guilty of second degree murder last month.
A jury found that she shot her husband of 26 years in 2018 for a $1.5m (£1.2m) life insurance pay-out.
Before her crime, Crampton Brophy had been a self-published author whose works of steamy romance and suspense include novels such as “The Wrong Husband” and “The Wrong Lover”. Read more

Kevin Spacey will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with four counts of sexual assault against three men, the Metropolitan Police has said.
It comes after the Hollywood star said he would ‘voluntarily appear’ in a British court because he is ‘confident’ he can prove his innocence following allegations of multiple sexual assaults.
The 62-year-old Oscar-winning actor is facing two counts of sexual assault on a man who is now in his 40s, in March 2005 in London, sexual assault on a man who is now in his 30s, in August 2008 in London, and causing him to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent. Read more

Sports Minister, Okowa praise athletes as team returns from Mauritius

The first batch of Nigeria’s contingent to Mauritius 2022 African Senior Athletics Championship returned to the country yesterday with Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, praising the athletes for their third-place finish.
Also, the president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Tonobok Okowa, has hailed the athletes, saying that the future is bright for the nation’s athletics.
Despite missing some of her top-rated athletes, including Tokyo Olympics medallist, Ese Brume, Team Nigeria was able to put up a credible outing in Mauritius, showing her strength in both track and field events, capturing a total of 11 medals made up of five gold, three silver and three bronze medals to finish third on the medal table behind Kenya and South Africa.

Chelsea have been dealt another blow to their hopes of signing Jules Kounde with France boss Didier Deschamps revealing that the defender requires surgery on a long-term injury issue.
The 23-year-old started Les Bleus’ UEFA Nations League defeat at home to Croatia on Monday night, lining up out of position at right-back.
But he was subbed off at half-time of the match, having also been an unused substitute in France’s previous two outings this month, and Deschamps revealed afterwards that it was not a tactical decision.

Australia book World Cup place on penalties (BBC)
Australia became the 31st team to book their place at the 2022 World Cup after beating Peru on penalties in an intercontinental play-off in Qatar.
Goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne, who replaced Mat Ryan just before the shootout for his third cap, was the hero, saving Alex Valera’s final kick.
This will be Australia’s fifth World Cup in a row, having qualified every time since 2006.
They will be in Group D alongside holders France, Denmark and Tunisia.
