The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has stated that the presence of a floating offshore oil market in Lome, Togo, will stifle plans for investors to construct refineries in Africa.

Dangote said the market which was selling refined product at inflated prices before due to lack of refineries in Africa, decided to crash their price after his refinery came on board.

He made the disclosure at Global commodity insights conference on West Africa organised by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and S&P, on Tuesday, in Abuja. Read more 

Suspension: I’ll approach appellate court for interpretation of legal impasse – Natasha (Nation)

The suspended senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, says she will approach the appellate court for interpretation of the legal impasse between her and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Akpoti-Uduaghan made this known while speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday after being refused entrance into the National Assembly Complex by security personnel.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the suspended senator had on Tuesday defied a heavy security blockade and arrived at the national assembly complex on foot from the MOPOL gate, accompanied by a crowd of supporters. Read more

Tinubu hosts Edun, Bagudu, Cardoso, others behind closed doors (Sun)

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, and the Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo.

Also at the meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, were the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Yemi Cardoso and the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji.

PSC seeks NDLEA partnership for drug testing of police recruits (Guardian)

The Chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC), DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), has sought the support of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), in conducting drug integrity tests for police recruits.

Argungu made the request when he led a delegation of the PSC management on a courtesy visit to Marwa at the agency’s National Headquarters in Abuja.

He stated that the request is aimed at ensuring that those with the right mindset eventually graduate from police training colleges across the country. Read more

NCAA orders airlines to enforce $10k currency declaration rule (Punch)

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has ordered all international airlines flying into Nigeria to enforce the $10,000 currency declaration rule.

The authority said the rule is required for passengers to declare cash or negotiable instruments above the limit, as part of efforts to strengthen anti-money laundering compliance.

According to the NCAA, the directive, referenced as NCAA/CPD/ABV/298, dated 24 April 2025 seeks to address gaps in the enforcement of existing currency declaration obligations for inbound passengers. Read more

Tom Jones postpones German show due to health reasons (FarOut)

Tom Jones has postponed an upcoming concert in Bremen, Germany, due to a respiratory infection.

The veteran Welsh singer has spent the summer on the road across the UK and Europe since beginning the jaunt at Hampton Court Palace on June 13th. Jones had been scheduled to conclude the German leg of the tour on July 22nd at the Seebühne Waterfront in Bremen, but instead, the show will now take place on July 28th.

In a message to fans, Jones wrote on social media: “Hello to all the fans in Bremen. Unfortunately, I must postpone my show this evening, as I’ve contracted an upper respiratory infection that needs treatment and rest. Man’s deadly brain cancer tumor disappears after experimental drug trial (FOX)

A man with the deadliest form of brain cancer has no signs of the disease after taking an experimental drug.

Ben Trotman was 40 when he was diagnosed in 2022 with glioblastoma, the most aggressive cancerous brain tumor. Patients typically live an average of 15 months after diagnosis, and the five-year survival rate is just 6.9%.

Trotman was referred to The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), where he was treated by consultant UCLH medical oncologist Dr. Paul Mulholland, as detailed in a press release. Read more 

Man arrested for hiding dead mum’s body in flat for 10 years due to social anxiety (SCMP)

Police in Japan have arrested a 60-year-old man on a charge of corpse abandonment after the body of his 95-year-old mother was discovered in her flat after being left there for 10 years.

Takehisa Miyawaki told police that he knew his mother died a decade ago, but did not report it due to social phobia, according to a report on the news website mbs.jp.

Russia and Ukraine will hold a new round of peace talks in Istanbul on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

“Today, I discussed with [Ukrainian Security Council chief] Rustem Umerov the preparations for a prisoner exchange and another meeting in Turkey with the Russian side,” Zelensky said in his daily address on Monday. “Umerov reported that the meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.”
