Dangote slashes ex-depot price of petrol by N30 (DailyTrust) 

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemical Limited has announced a reduction in the ex-depot (gantry) price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by N30.

According to the announcement made by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the development takes immediate effect.

“Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in the ex-depot (gantry) price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly referred to as petrol, by N30.00, from N850 to N820 per litre, effective from 12th August 2025.” Read more

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has again dismissed allegations of bias leveled against it by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its maintained that its investigations cut across all political divides.

Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, said the Commission’s work is non-partisan as it targets both the ruling party members and opposition figures accused of corruption.

“If I am not condemned for investigating both former and serving strong ruling party governors and ministers, I should not be condemned for also investigating opposition figures,” Olukoyede stated. Read more

Tricycle rider crushed to death (Punch) 

A yet-to-be-identified commercial tricycle rider was on Tuesday crushed to death in an accident at the top of Egbe Bridge in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Taofiq Adebayo, who confirmed the incident in a statement, disclosed that the accident occurred when a Toyota Venza, with registration number GWA 659 RD, attempted to overtake another vehicle on the bridge.

According to him, the vehicle, in the process, rammed into the tricycle with number plate EPE 245 QM, coming from the opposite direction. Read more

USA Today obtained court documents and reports that Sean “Diddy’ Combs’ initial lawsuit has doubled after Courtney Burgess claimed that he owned videos featuring the mogul related to his explosive sex trafficking and racketeering case. Combs initially filed a lawsuit against NewsNation and Burgess’ attorney Burgess’ attorney Ariel Mitchell, both of whom appeared on the news outlet.

The lawsuit was amended on August 11 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and continues to name Burgess, Mitchell, and NewsNation. Read more

A Kenyan magistrate says the cause of death of British tycoon Harry Roy Veevers, whose exhumed body has been in a morgue for 11 years, cannot be determined.

David Odhiambo ordered the inquest to be closed, saying that “due to the level of [the body’s] decomposition at the time of exhumation – months after his burial” it was too hard to say what led to his death and “nobody can be called to answer any charge”.

Mr Veevers died on Valentine’s Day 2013 in the coastal city of Mombasa. He was buried in accordance with Islamic rites and without a post-mortem. Read more

2 dead, others remain missing after heavy rain hit southwest Japan (JapanToday)

Two people were confirmed dead Tuesday, and a few others remain missing after torrential rain from the weekend caused floods and landslides in the Kyushu region of southwestern Japan, authorities said.

Search and rescue efforts continued for those missing in Fukuoka and Kumamoto prefectures. The stormy weather has disrupted transportation during Japan’s summer vacation season, affecting many passengers on shinkansen bullet trains.

Authorities said a man evacuating with his family was found with no vital signs Monday after their car was engulfed in a landslide in Kosa, Kumamoto Prefecture. The other fatality was a woman found inside a car that had fallen into an irrigation canal in Yatsushiro on Monday. Read more
