Defilement: Doctor, others charged for procuring abortion for 10-year-old (Punch)
An Ondo State Magistrate Court, sitting in Akure has ordered the remand of two men, Adebowale Adegboye, and Idowu Akinseye in prison custody for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl (name withheld).
While Adegboye is the father of the victim, Akinseye is her stepfather.
The duo were alleged to have had carnal knowledge of the victim at different times in Akure, the state capital before they were arrested by the men of the state police command. Read more

Nigeria accounts for 31 percent of global malaria deaths and 27 percent of total cases worldwide, according to the World Malaria Report 2024.
The country also accounted for nearly 40% of worldwide malaria deaths among children under five.
About 55 million cases of malaria and 90,000 malaria-related deaths occur in the country every year, while the economic burden of the disease in the country was estimated at $1.6b (N687 billion) in 2022 and may increase to about $2.8b (N2 trillion) in 2030. Read more

The Federal Government says it has completed repair works on the runway of Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu and will be reopened on Monday, April 28, 2025.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who made the announcement on Sunday, said the work was finished ahead of the scheduled May 6 date.

The Department of Civil-Military Affairs of the Nigerian Army has cautioned Nigerians to avoid wearing military uniforms illegally, saying that respecting the uniform is an important part of strengthening national security.
