Fresh details have emerged regarding a petition filed and submitted to the Senate by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, alleging sexual harassment, abuse of office, and obstruction of legislative duties.
The petition, dated March 4, 2025, and submitted Wednesday before the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria against its President, Akpabio.
Akpoti-Uduaghan accused the parliament leader of making inappropriate advances towards her during a visit to his residence in Akwa Ibom on December 8, 2023. “On or about the 8th of December 2023, I, in the company of my husband, Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan, visited the residence of the Respondent in Akwa Ibom State”, the statement reads. The Federal Government has attributed the surge in power generation to 6,003 megawatts (MW) to the revised electricity tariff structure, which it claims has incentivised performance within the sector.
According to a statement by the spokesperson to the Minister of Power, Bolaji Tunji, the country’s electricity generation hit a historic peak of 6,003 megawatts (MW), a milestone the government linked to improved cost-reflective tariffs that enhanced liquidity and encouraged investment in power generation.
This came barely 24 hours after the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) disclosed that generation hit 5,713MW on Tuesday. Read more

The immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has denied a media report that he was accused of sexual harassment by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Amid the controversy trailing the Senate over the sexual harassment claim made by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Fayemi stated that he was never accused of the same by the lawmaker representing Kogi Central.
The denial is in response to a report claiming that Senator Cyril Fasuyi (APC, Ekiti North), during Wednesday’s plenary, said Akpoti-Uduaghan previously accused Fayemi of sexual harassment. Read more

Roy Ayers, the multi-hyphenate composer and artist nicknamed the ‘Godfather of Neo Soul,’ has passed away at the age of 84.
News of Ayers’ passing was confirmed on Wednesday (March 5), with a statement shared via his official Facebook page.
“It is with great sadness that the family of legendary vibraphonist, composer and producer Roy Ayers announce his passing which occurred on March 4th, 2025 in New York City after a long illness,” the post wrote. “He lived a beautiful 84 years and will be sorely missed. His family ask that you respect their privacy at this time, a celebration of Roy’s life will be forthcoming.” Read more

Man swallows stolen Tiffany earrings before police arrest him (BBC)
An alleged thief in Florida swallowed stolen earrings worth more than half a million dollars moments before police took him into custody last week.
Orlando police have accused the man, 32-year-old Jaythan Gilder, of lying to Tiffany & Co. employees in a Florida store by telling them he represented “a professional athlete”, which led employees to show him “several high-value pieces”.
Mr Gilder then allegedly stole the earrings and ran out of the store. Read more

A federal appeals court has ruled to remove the head of a government watchdog agency, marking the latest development in a legal battle over Republican President Donald Trump’s authority to fire the special counsel.
The three-person US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia unanimously sided with the Trump administration, allowing the immediate removal of Hampton Dellinger as head of the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) while the court fight continues.
The D.C. appeals court judges were Karen Henderson, nominated by George HW Bush, Patricia Millett, nominated by Barack Obama, and Justin Walker, nominated by Trump during his first term. Read more

A British man who was captured by Russia while fighting for Ukraine has been sentenced to 19 years in prison, a Russian court has said.
James Scott Rhys Anderson, 22, was convicted of “mercenary activities” and a “terrorist act” after a three-day closed military trial in Kursk, the court press service for the region said on Wednesday.
Anderson, who was reportedly captured in November while participating in Ukraine’s cross-border offensive in Kursk, pleaded guilty to the charges against him, the press service said. Read more
