There is disquiet in Lagos State chapter of the APC as the state’s political leader and National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday, dissolved all political groups and factions of the party in the state.
The decision was reached at the end of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) meeting held yesterday at the State House, Marina, it was learnt. The dissolution of all the political groups came few days after the reconstitution of the Mandate Group by a former Governor of Osun State, Chief Rauf Aregbesola. Read more

All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola on Tuesday denied any rift between them.
They spoke against the background of reports that the decision to disallow groupings within the Lagos APC was targeted at Aregbesola.
Media Adviser to Tinubu Alhaji Tunde Rahman in a statement, maintained that there was no quarrel between Tinubu and Aregbesola.
He said: ”Today, the Governor’s Advisory Council, the highest decision-making body within the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, passed a resolution calling for the disbandment of all factional groups within the party. Read more
LASTMA to clamp down on Ladipo market traffic obstructers (Guardian)
The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) has threatened to clamp down on traders who obstruct free flow of traffic at the Ladipo market, on the Oshodi-Apapa expressway corridor.
The expressway is currently undergoing road reconstruction as the Oshodi-bound route is closed to traffic, with motorists plying the service lane. The usual congestion on the road due to the road rehabilitation is compounded by trading and trucks maneuvering to access Ladipo market and OK Foods at the Toyota Bus Stop.
Reacting to The Guardian report on Monday, the spokesman of the agency, Mr Olumide Filade, said, “We were at that location twice two weeks ago, on Tuesday, May 26 and Friday, May 29 to evacuate all vehicles that were parked unlawfully along the road. Read more
Mother of 13 gives birth to quadruplets in Zaria (Nation)
A 34-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Sulaiman, of No. 70 Alfadarai in Zaria, also a mother of 13, gave birth to a set of quadruplets at the Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, Zaria, on Friday, June 5.
Sulaiman told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Zaria that she had now been blessed with 17 children, adding that the set of the new quadruplets she was recently delivered of was her eighth delivery.
The mother and the babies were transferred to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) for better care after she had been delivered of her latest pregnancy.
Sulaiman, however, said the only male among the quadruplets died before they arrived ABUTH. Read more
Obaseki kicks as INEC approves direct primary for Edo (DailyTrust)
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday approved the direct primary mode for the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary for the Edo State governorship election, scheduled for 19th September 2020. There have been verbal exchanges between the camp of the National Chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and that of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki over the mode to be used for the governorship primary slated for June 22 this year. While the National Working Committee of the APC under the leadership of Oshiomhole proposed direct mode, Obaseki and his supporters have vehemently faulted it, insisting that indirect mode be used. Bring my husband’s killers to justice, wife of slain guard pleads (Guardian)
Mrs Maina Hassan, the widow of a slain security guard, Mallam Abu Hassan, has appealed to the Delta State government to ensure that justice is served and the killers of her husband are punished according to the law.
On November 15, 2017, Mallam Hassan, a native of Reazave town, Maiduguri, Borno State, working as a guard at the residence of Dr Ovie Ughwanogho on Hospital Road, Orogun, Ughelli North Local Government area in Delta State, was allegedly murdered on duty by three suspects.
The wife of the deceased, who witnessed the killing, alleged that the suspects were trying to cart away illegally harvested palm fruits from the compound that her late husband guarded and he accosted them. Read more
Oshiomhole, Obaseki extend war to gov’s varsity certificate (Punch)
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, and the Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, on Tuesday criticised each other over the first degree certificate presented by the governor from the University of Ibadan.
Oshiomhole, in Abuja at the inauguration of the APC’s screening and appeal committees for its members contesting governorship primary in Edo State, expressed doubt over the authenticity of Obaseki’s UI certificate.
But the governor, through his spokesman, Crusoe Osagie, challenged Oshiomhole to go and confirm the authenticity of his certificate at the UI. He also said the national chairman should tell Nigerians the university he attended. Read more
VP inaugurates 200,000-capacity Benue yam storage centre (Punch)
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday reiterated the commitment of Federal Government to rebuild the communities destroyed by armed herdsmen in Benue State.
The Vice President stated this on Tuesday in Zaki Biam in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State during the inauguration of reconstructed of Zaki Biam Yam Market and 200,000 capacity yam storage facility.
The storage facility was built by the Federal Government and donated to the Benue State Government. Read more
Dozens killed in attack in northern Nigeria (BBC)
At least 59 people have been killed in a suspected jihadist attack in north-eastern Nigeria.
Gunmen entered a remote village in the Gubio district of Borno state on Tuesday afternoon, killing dozens.
The village was also razed, in what is believed to have been a reprisal attack, according to local reports.
No group has yet claimed the attack. The AFP news agency said that 59 bodies had been recovered, while Reuters reported that 69 people were killed.
Reuters reported that the militants suspected villagers of sharing information about their movements to security forces, while AFP said jihadist fighters had been killed by locals trying to protect livestock. Read more
George Floyd’s funeral hears calls for racial justice (BBC)
The funeral of George Floyd, an African American whose death in police custody spawned global outrage, has heard impassioned pleas for racial justice.
Speakers in the church in Houston, Texas, lined up to remember a man whose “crime was that he was born black”.
Mr Floyd died in Minneapolis last month as a white police officer held a knee on his neck for nearly nine minutes, his final moments filmed on phones.
Four police officers involved have been sacked and charged over his death.
His coffin was taken from the church driven in a motorcade to the Houston Memorial Gardens where he was to be buried beside his mother. Read more

Brazil’s government resumed publishing the country’s total death toll from the coronavirus pandemic Tuesday, after facing accusations of trying to hide the magnitude of its raging health crisis.
Far-right President Jair Bolsonaro’s government had stopped publishing the total number of deaths from the new coronavirus Friday, saying it was adopting a new methodology and would only report the number of deaths recorded in the past 24 hours in its daily bulletin.
That drew accusations of foul play from a long list of high-profile critics, as well as a ruling from Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes on Monday that the government must return to the old format. Read more

Chicago sees deadliest day in decades amid protests and curfew (BBC)
Chicago saw its deadliest day in at least 30 years last month, with 18 killings within a 24-hour period on 31 May.
The violence occurred as protests over George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis also spurred rioting and looting in the Windy City.
Over the last weekend in May – a three day holiday – 85 people were shot and 24 killed, according to the University of Chicago Crime Lab.
Most of the victims were black.
The dead and injured include students, parents and middle-aged workers, according to the data provided to the Chicago Sun-Times. Read more
Covid-19: France’s daily death toll remains below 100 for seventh day in a row (France24)
France’s coronavirus death toll rose by 87 or 0.3 percent to 29,296 on Tuesday, the highest daily toll since June 2, but remained under 100 for the seventh day in a row, health ministry data showed.
On Monday, 54 Covid-19 deaths were reported, on Sunday 13.
The number of daily confirmed coronavirus infections increased by 403 or 0.3 percent to 154,591, up on the 211 seen on Monday and 343 on Sunday, but remained below the more than 500 seen on Thursday through Saturday.
The number of people in hospital with Covid-19 continued its weeks-long decline and fell by 354 to 11,961, while the number of people in intensive care units fell below 1,000 for the first time since March 19, down 69 to 955. Read more

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare has paid glowing tribute to the mother of late Super Eagles player Samuel Okwaraji, Lady Janet Okwaraji who passed on recently at the age of 83.
The minister expressed shock and disappointment that her death came shortly after the ministry had concluded plans for her monthly allowance.

Operators lament as Ondo bans viewing centres (Punch)
The joy of football viewing centre operators in Ondo State has been cut short, as the state government banned the operation of football viewing centres in the state.
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in his weekly broadcast in Akure on Monday, said the step was taken to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 in the state.
The state had 19 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 12 days, taking the total number in the state to 43.

Manchester United were forced to cancel a friendly against Stoke City at their training ground on Tuesday after the Championship club’s manager Michael O’Neill tested positive for coronavirus.
Stoke’s players and staff did not come into contact at any point with United’s squad as they were taken to a separate building at Carrington following their arrival. A statement from Stoke on Tuesday evening read: ‘Stoke City can confirm that manager Michael O’Neill has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus following the latest round of testing on Monday (June 8). French highest administrative court has rejected an effort to restart the Ligue 1 season – but ruled that Amiens and Toulouse should be reprieved from relegation.
