The PUNCH’s correspondents, who monitored many parts of the two states on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, reported that the flood caused by incessant rain, claimed lives and destroyed homes and property.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, have arrested three suspected okada robbers in Ikorodu area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The suspects, Emmanuel Michael, 24, who rode on a motorcyle, in company of two other accomplices; Moses Ogeh, 27 and Ojonugwa Ojomeje, 29, were arrested in Ita-Maga area of Ikorodu after hijacking a motor bike popularly called ‘okada’ from a cyclist while impersonating police officers.

Two of the suspects: Ojomeje and Ogeh were caught in MOPOL vest and police vest and fez cap while trying to escape after collecting an ‘okada’ from a rider in Ikorodu. Read more

Northern governors, elders, others move to end Jukun, Tiv crisis (Guardian)

The Northern Governors Forum (NGF), elders and community leaders have perfected plans to ensure peaceful coexistence between Jukun and Tiv communities of Taraba State before the end of the month.

A communiqué issued in Abuja after a two-day conflict resolution meeting of the NGF, elders, and leaders of both communities, revealed that no fewer than 300 youths would be trained on conflicts resolution and management techniques.

The communiqué was signed by President of Tiv Community, Goodman Dahida, Spokesman of Jukun Community, Daniel Emmanuel Angyu and Chairman, Tiv/Jukun Conflict Reconciliation Committee, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman. Read more

Typhoon Hagibis also caused the cancellation of three Rugby World Cup matches but the key match between Japan and Scotland went ahead.
