Man stabs Ikeja Electric’s technician over disconnection (Punch)
A 22-year-old man, Oluwadamilare Temenu, has reportedly stabbed a technician with the Ikeja Electric, Oluwaseyi Amao, for disconnecting power supply to his residence at No. 13 Adesanya Street, in the Mafoluku area of Oshodi, Lagos State.
Punch Metro gathered that Amao and his colleague, Yusuf Tunde, had acted on a disconnection order by the management of Ikeja Electric, an electricity distribution company, which had marked some flats in the building for disconnection over unpaid bills, when they were attacked.
Amao, who said he gave the residents a month’s grace to pay their outstanding bills, added that he was surprised that one of them would attack him for disconnecting power supply to his apartment despite owing over N300,000. Read more
Driver arrested for allegedly raping 78-year-old woman (Guardian)
The Lagos State police command has arrested a commercial bus driver, simply identified as Jelili, for allegedly raping a 78-year-old woman in an isolated area at Adeniyi Jones, Lagos State. The old woman was badly injured during the alleged rape and is presently receiving treatment in the hospital.
The victim had missed her way and allegedly approached the suspect at Maryland, asking how to get to her destination in Ketu. The suspect reportedly promised to take the victim to her destination. The woman who was so happy joined the suspect in his bus, but on the way, the suspect drove the confused woman to a lonely place at Oloti village, off Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja and allegedly raped her without mercy.
A police investigaor told The Guardian: “Jelili raped the woman severally, but the old woman did not easily give up as she kept shouting for help even though the suspect covered her mouth with dirty rag. A woman who overheard her shout for help made a distress call and we raced to the scene where we arrested the suspect. The woman was bleeding profusely.” Read more
Police arraign sales clerks for alleged N33.7m theft (Punch)
Four sales clerks were on Wednesday arraigned before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court in Igbosere for allegedly stealing N33,724,500 belonging to their employer, Mr Emmanuel Ugo.
The defendants – Augustine Achakuba, 26; Nwohidi Chineye Lawson, 29; Amenchi Oluchukwu, 34; and Eze Arinze, 31 – were arraigned on four counts bordering on conspiracy, stealing and unlawful conversion. Read more
Six suspected touts face trial for alleged display of firearms (Vanguard)
Six suspected touts, on Thursday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly causing terror to inhabitants of Ojo area of the metropolis.
The defendants: Godwin Chineye, 19; Rasheed Eniola, 18; Obumaeme Azubuike, 36; Waheed Femi, 32; Kamali Maikazi, 18; and Chidiebere Onyeboyin, 26, all live at Ojo area of Lagos.
They are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, willful damage and display of firearms and dangerous weapons. Read more
Building contractor charged with N39.7m theft (Nation)
A self-proclaimed building contractor, Dehinbo Olatunji, who allegedly obtained N39, 730,000 under false pretence, was on Thursday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Olatunji, 38, was arraigned by the Police before Chief Magistrate Folashade Botoku on a two-count charge of obtaining and stealing.
Prosecuting Inspector Haruna Ibrahim alleged that the defendant committed the offences sometime in June 2018, at Wasimi Maryland, in Lagos. Read more
