Driver arraigned for allegedly stealing employer’s N22m (Punch)
A 33-year-old driver, Oluwatosin Eko, was on Tuesday, arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate Court, in Lagos, sitting at Ebute-Metta, for allegedly stealing N22,280,000, from his employer.
Eko was arraigned on two counts bordering on conspiracy, and stealing preferred against him, by the police.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant and others now at large conspired amongst themselves to commit the alleged theft. Read more
Residents beat Lagos security guard to coma over car theft (Punch)
There was tension on Monday after a yet-to-identified security guard went into a coma after he was beaten up at the Tanisewun Estate in the Igbogbo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident happened after a car was allegedly stolen in the area he was securing.

32 arrested for attacking FG inspection team in FCE (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command on Monday said it had arrested 32 suspects for allegedly attacking a Federal Government team that came on an inspection to the Federal College of Education (Technical) in the Akoka area of the state.
The crisis on the campus deepened as some students who had been protesting poor welfare on the campus for about a week were seen in videos fleeing from teargas reportedly fired by police officers on Monday.

Driver arraigned for allegedly stealing N25m solar panels (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command, on Monday, arraigned a 32-year-old bus driver, Olusola Olaniyi, for allegedly stealing 80 pieces of solar panel structures worth N25m.
Olaniyi was arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court, Yaba, before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka and charged with two counts of conspiracy to steal and theft.
The charges alleged that the defendant, on May 17, 2024, conspired and stole 80 pieces of solar panel structures worth N25m belonging to one Ololade Olawuyi. Read more
Victim under pressure to drop police station rape case — Family (Punch)
A relative of the 17-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by a police officer at the Ogudu Area H Command, identified only as Anderson, has accused the suspect’s family of pressuring the survivor’s mother, Aramida Olupona, to forgive the accused officer.
Anderson revealed this information to our correspondent during a phone interview on Saturday.
Recall that during a telephone interview with City Round on Friday, the mother of the teenager, Olupona, said, “Officer Owolabi is supposed to have been charged to court by now, what are they waiting for? What are they covering up?
“Now, it’s been more than a week and there has been silence from the police. We have not heard from them since then. We want more than a query given to this officer, the police need to be transparent and hold one of their own accountable for his actions. Read more
Lagos task force arrests 124 suspects in black spot raids (Punch)
The Lagos State Task Force said its officials arrested 124 suspects during multiple raids of criminal hideouts across the state as part of its efforts to restore sanity across the state.
The raid, according to a statement made available to PUNCH Metro on Sunday by the Director of Press and Public Affairs of the agency, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, was carried out on Saturday midnight and was led by the agency’s chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele.
Abdulraheem noted that the raided spots which were notorious for drug peddling, hooliganism, and street trading among others included Aminkanle market and NerdC Street by African Shrine in the Agidingbi area of Ikeja, Lagos State.
NDLEA recovers cocaine hidden in bizman’s sandals at Lagos airport (Punch)
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have recovered parcels of cocaine weighing 1.20 kilograms from a Spain-based businessman, Francis Akajiobi, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State.
Akajiobi, a 50-year-old man, had concealed the cocaine in the soles of a pair of black sandals he was wearing while attempting to board a flight to Madrid.
A statement by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday, said Akajiobi confessed that he was to deliver the cocaine to his friend and neighbour for €5,000.
Brazil-based baron, freight agent jailed 16 years for drug trafficking (Punch)
The Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday sentenced a Brazil-based Nigerian drug baron, Christian Anyanwu, to 16 years imprisonment for trafficking 1.40 kilograms of methamphetamine.
The court also convicted a 35-year-old freight agent, Omolara Salako, for her role in the illegal activity.
The convicts were first arraigned before Justice Yelim Bogoro, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, sometime in May 2023, on five counts.
The charges included conspiracy, unlawful exportation, and non-declaration of assets. Read more
Police arrest five for selling 2-month-old baby (Punch)
The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested five persons, including a couple, over their alleged involvement in selling a two-month-old baby.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests on Saturday in a statement in Lagos.
Hundeyin said that detectives from the Oko-oba Police Division arrested the suspects following a report from the mother of the baby boy. Read more
Police arrest 2 for vandalism in Lagos (Punch)
Men of the Lagos State Police Command, Ilupeju division, have arrested two suspects, Kelvin Louis (23) and Onyedikachi Paul (29), for vandalising railway perimeter iron fences along Oshodi-Agege Motor Road.
This was made known by the Police command on X.com on Saturday.
According to the report, the police received a tip-off from a concerned citizen, leading them to the scene where they apprehended the duo. Read more
Immigration intercepts traffickers, rescues baby, 3 others in Lagos (Punch)
The Nigerian Immigration Service, Lagos Border Patrol Command, Seme, Badagry, Lagos State, has rescued a six-month-old baby and three others, suspected to be victims of human trafficking.
The Controller of the command, Comptroller Peter Adache, who disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Badagry on Friday, said the victims were rescued when the officials intercepted a yet-to-be-identified couple suspected to be human traffickers.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Adache said the suspects were intercepted by the operatives around 1.30 p.m. on Monday, along Kankon Owode Road in Badagry. Read more
Rape: Lagos command queries policeman, awaits medical report (Punch)
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, on Friday, confirmed that the policeman accused of raping a 17-year-old girl in one of the offices at the Area H Command in Ogudu, in the Ojota area of the state, has been queried over the allegation.
Fayoade, while speaking with City Round, said the command was awaiting the medical report of the test conducted on the minor who accused the policeman of raping her during a visit to the police station over the case of a stolen phone.
Noting that the medical report was a determinant factor in an alleged case of rape, the CP said the command was on top of the matter, adding that no stone would be left unturned in the investigation. Read more
