Driver arrested for allegedly killing pedestrian in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has arrested a driver who rammed into a pedestrian and allegedly killed him in the Kosofe area of the state.
The driver, who was conveying pepper and some perishable items in a Toyota Hiace bus, was reportedly speeding when he lost control and rammed into two other vehicles and the pedestrian, killing the pedestrian and injuring one passenger.
The Director of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident to our correspondent. Read more
Police arrest wanted fake soldier in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man simply identified as Femi Balogun for allegedly parading himself as a Sergeant in the Armed Forces at Fagbile Estate in the Ijegun-Isheri area of the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident occurred at about 3.10pm on Saturday.
It was also learnt that the alleged fake soldier was apprehended by the police while conducting a patrol around the Fagbile Estate. Read more
NDLEA intercepts Qatar-bound illicit drugs concealed in vegetables (Punch)
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, in conjunction with operatives of the Department of State Security, have detained a 35-year-old lady, Chidinma Chinenye-Agbazue, after she was caught attempting to export 20 parcels of cannabis sativa weighing 10.70 kilogrammes concealed in African salad, popularly called Abacha, and dried vegetables, to Doha, Qatar, through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State.
This comes as the agency’s operatives reportedly rejected a N5m bribe from another suspect in Lagos State.
The spokesperson for the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, revealed the development in a statement on Sunday while detailing arrests and recoveries made by the agency over the past week. Read more
19-year-old faces trial for attempting to snatch Lagos police bike (Punch)
The police in Lagos State have disclosed that they will arraign one Akinjobi Wahab for attempting to rob a police team, who were in plain clothes, of their patrol motorcycle.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to Hundeyin, the 19-year-old suspect was arrested on Acme Road in the Ikeja area of the state. Read more
Lagos driver arrested for killing 5-year-old girl (Punch)
A driver identified as Daniel is currently in police custody for hitting a five-year-old girl at Adura Field in the Ijaye Ojokoro area of Lagos State with his car.
PUNCH Online gathered that the girl was confirmed dead at the hospital where she was rushed to.

Lagos arrests 63 for shunning pedestrian bridges (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps have arrested 63 individuals across various locations for crossing the highway without using the pedestrian bridges and for engaging in street trading.
The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made this known in a post on his X handle on Friday.
The caption reads, “63 persons were arrested yesterday by the officials of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial(KAI) at different locations in the state for crossing the highway without using the pedestrian bridge, and street trading. Read more
23-year-old acquitted of rape after 2 years in jail (Punch)
Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday discharged and acquitted 23-year-old Victory Tasie, accused of raping his 19-year-old girlfriend, after spending two years in prison.
The judge discharged and acquitted Tasie when she ruled on a no-case submission filed by the defendant through his counsel, Mrs Rukayat Owolabi, dated March 19, 2024.
Justice Soladoye held that the prosecution failed to discharge the burden of proof of defilement against Tasie. Read more
Man held for allegedly beating wife to death in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Emmanuel Okpara for allegedly beating his wife, Patience, to death in the Agege area of Lagos State.
Okpara was said to have physically assaulted his wife on Monday after a heated argument reportedly ensued between the couple.
A police source who spoke to PUNCH Metro said Patience sustained internal injuries and started vomiting blood in the process. Read more
Evicted tenant arraigned for stealing electrical fittings (Punch)
A 48-year-old evicted tenant, Paul Orizu, was arraigned by the police before the Ebute-Metta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Wednesday for stealing electrical fittings worth N500,000 from his former apartment.
The defendant is facing charges of repossession, breach of peace, and stealing preferred against him by the police.
The prosecutor, Supol Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that Orizu committed the offences on June 22, 2023, at about 9am. The incident occurred at No. 12/13, Badagry Expressway, Orile-Iganmu, Lagos. Read more
Police nab 5 suspected kidnappers in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested suspected cultists and kidnappers allegedly responsible for chaos in the state.
The police also said they had apprehended five suspected kidnappers who allegedly extorted money from their victims.
The state Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, while parading over a score of suspected criminals at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Wednesday, disclosed that the command also recovered several arms and ammunition from the culprits. Read more
Court remands employee for stealing boss N54.1m (Punch)
An Ebute-Metta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, on Wednesday, remanded a 25-year-old man, David Ojonugwa, for allegedly stealing the sum of N54,142,000 from his employer.
Magistrate Adedayo Tella remanded Ojonugwa at the Correctional Centre pending the review of facts and sentencing after he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
Ojonugwa is facing three counts bordering on conspiracy, unlawful interference with property, and stealing preferred against him by the police. Read more
Navy intercepts 193 bags of narcotics, arrests suspect (Punch)
The Nigerian Navy has intercepted 193 bags of cannabis sativa and arrested a suspect, Asamani Emmanuel, along the Badagry waterways.
According to a press statement released to our correspondent on Tuesday, Commander NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Rafiu Oladejo, while briefing newsmen, disclosed that the contraband and suspect were intercepted by the NNS BEECROFT patrol team through the effective utilisation of the state-of-the-art Maritime Domain Awareness Facility, the Falcon Eye Alignment. Man arraigned for raping daughter in Lagos (Punch)
The Ikeja Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court is hearing the case of Taiwo Oyelabi, who is accused of engaging in unlawful sexual relations with his biological daughter.
Mr Oyelabi faces a single charge of rape, a violation of Section 358 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
Inspector Bakare Iyabo, presenting the prosecution’s case, informed the court that the defendant was apprehended on April 16, 2018, following a report made to the Igando Police Station alleging an inappropriate relationship between Mr Oyelabi and his daughter. He was subsequently detained for further investigation.
Appeal Court affirms bankers’ conviction over N855m fraud (Nation)
The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, has affirmed the judgment of a Lagos State High Court, which sentenced two officials of a bank to five years imprisonment for N855 million fraud.
The appellate court, in a unanimous judgment delivered yesterday by Justice Folasade Ojo, held that the separate appeals filed by the bankers against their conviction by Justice Kudirat Jose were lacking in merit.
Other judges on the panel – Justice Olukayode Bada and Justice Paul Bassi – agreed with the judgment. Read more
Court threatens bench warrant against suspected land grabber (Nation)
Justice Adenike Coker of an Ikeja High Court has threatened to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of an alleged land grabber, Moroof Owonla, and his cohorts, for their persistent absence in court.
The trial judge ordered the state prosecutor to ensure the presence of Owonla in court at the next adjourned date of April 15, failure of which she said a bent warrant will be issued against him.
Justice Coker issued the threat following Owonla’s disregard for court orders over an alleged felony case leveled against him and two others. Read more
