A 45-year-old Driver, Oderinde Sulaimon, on Monday appeared before an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged reckless driving and malicious damage.
Sulaimon who resides in Oyo State, is also being charged with unlicensed driving.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Bassey told the court that Sulaimon committed the offences at about 10:30 p.m., on April 20 at Toll-Gate, Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ketu, Lagos.
Bassey said the defendant dangerously drove a DAF Truck with registration number, SGB 220 YS and rammed into a Mercedes Benz ML350, marked AKD 779 HD.
The prosecutor said that Sulaimon’s action caused enormous damage to the car’s rear bumper.He further stated that the defendant attempted to run away after hitting and damaging the Mercedes Benz.”
But the driver of the Mercedes Benz followed him up to the old Toll Gate, blocked him and urged him to come and see the damage done to his vehicle.
“He again attempted to run away, and in the process hit the Mercedes Benz for the second time,” he said.Bassey said that the offences contravened Sections 18 and 11 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2012.
The law prescribes a two-year jail term for anyone found guilty of malicious damage and seven years for reckless driving.Sulaimon pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Daodu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.Daobu adjourned the case untill May 31, for trial. (NAN)
