Two men, Yusuf Mohammed and Salami Abdullahi, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged theft of engine oil valued N4.3million.
Mohammed, 40, and Abdullahi, 32, whose address were not given, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp John Iberedem, told the court that Mohammed and Abdullahi committed the offences at about 8.50a.m on May 24 in Lagos.
Iberedem said that the defendants, loaded a truck belonging to the complainant, Oni Adeniyi with 60 drums of engine oil en route Sokoto State.
He stated that Mohammed conspired with his motor boy, Abdullahi to steal nine drums of engine oil from the consignment while on transit.
“They conspired and stole nine drums of engine oil valued at N4.3m during their journey to Sokoto State,” he told the court.
The prosecutor said that the offences were contrary to Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal code Law of Lagos, 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The Chief Magistrate, E. Kubeinje granted the defendants bail in the sum of N300,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Kubeinje said that the sureties who must be residing within the court’s jurisdiction, should also be gainfully employed.
The chief magistrate further ordered that the sureties must present evidence of tax payment to the state government.
She adjourned the case until July 18 for further hearing. (NAN)
