The driver of the Honda Saloon car with number plate EPE 984 DV that rammed into the Lagos State Waste Management Authority sweepers while they were discharging their duties along Gbagada Expressway on Monday morning has turned himself in to the police.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development to our correspondent on Tuesday.
Hundeyin said the driver would be charged to court on Tuesday for manslaughter. Read more
Nigerian mother of 2 found dead in her UK home (Vanguard)
A Nigerian woman residing in the United Kingdom, identified as Joy Nsude, was found dead in her residence in Hartlepool, after speaking with her husband and many others on the phone.
Nsude was a mother of two children who are a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl.
A member of the Nigerian community in the UK, Ibironke Khadeejah Quadri, disclosed Nsude’s death in a post on Facebook on Monday, adding that the cause of her demise had not been ascertained. Read more

Three victims who escaped from the captors of Benue Links passengers have narrated their ordeals.
The victims – two males and a female – were among 18 passengers abducted when they were travelling along the dilapidated Naka-Makurdi road.
Speaking with journalists, a female victim simply identified as Blessing, said the incident happened at about 3pm on Thursday (five days ago). Read more

The organised labour has expressed satisfaction on the level of compliance of workers in the ongoing strike declared by the two Trade Union Congress of Nigeria and Nigeria Labour Congress.
The Deputy President of TUC, Comrade Tommy Okon who spearheaded the monitoring team of the two labour centres dispatched to monitor and enforce compliance, told NIGERIA TRIBUNE.

Court to deliver judgment in Rhodes-Vivour, Jandor’s appeals Wednesday (Channels)
The Court of Appeal in Lagos has fixed tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 15 to deliver judgment in the appeal filed by the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Abdulazeez Olajide Adediran challenging the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
A notice sent out by the court to parties in the appeal indicated the judgment will be delivered tomorrow at 3 pm.
Exactly a week ago, on Nov 7th, the Court of Appeal panel led by Justice Yargata Nimpar had reserved judgment in the two appeals after listening to the arguments of the parties. Read more
No nationwide blackout over strike, says TCN (Nation)
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has denied a report by an online newspaper (not The Nation), of an imminent national blackout.
TCN, in a statement obtained by The Nation, titled: ‘False publication by daily post on national blackout’ signed by its Management, noted that the nation’s power grid was intact and supplying bulk electricity to distribution load centres nationwide.
It said: “The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby states that the publication by Daily Post alleging that the Head of Public Affairs of TCN said that there will be a national blackout is false and totally misleading. Read more

Employers of Nigerian student killed in Philippines charged with murder- NIDCOM (Guardian)
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has disclosed that the employers of a Nigerian student who was beaten to death in the Philippines have been charged with murder, along with five others.
Dabiri-Erewa made the announcement during a Senate Joint Committee on Diaspora,Intergovernmental Affairs and Foreign Affairs investigative hearing on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified only as Ikem, was allegedly brutally murdered by a group of Chinese in the Republic of the Philippines over a minor disagreement with his supervisor. Read more
Taylor Swift adds 2 more Wembley dates to Eras tour, equalling Take That record (BBC)
Taylor Swift has added two extra London shows to her record-breaking Eras tour, after the first six nights sold out.
The new dates, on 19 and 20 August, mean she will now play a total of eight nights at Wembley Stadium next summer.
That equals a record set by Take That, who played the venue for eight dates on their 2011 Progress tour. Those shows made £38 million at the box office. Read more
Zimbabwe Election Campaign: Opposition leader kidnapped and found dead (AfricaNews)
An opposition activist in Zimbabwe has been found dead after being abducted while campaigning ahead of by-elections, his party announced on Monday.
This is the third incident in recent weeks denounced by the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC), the country’s largest opposition group, which accuses the ruling Zanu-PF party of conducting a vast campaign of intimidation against its supporters.
At the end of October and beginning of November, the CCC announced that one of its MPs and a former MP had been kidnapped in Harare, tortured and then found naked and wounded in the case of the former, and with his head shaved in the case of the latter. Read more
UN prosecutor confirms death of Rwanda genocide fugitive (VOA)
The prosecutor tasked with finding the last remaining fugitives from the U.N. war crimes court for Rwanda on Tuesday confirmed the death of genocide suspect Aloys Ndimbati, leaving only two people remaining wanted by the Rwanda tribunal.
In the last three years the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) has arrested two Rwandan genocide suspects and confirmed the deaths of four other fugitives, including Ndimbati.
In a statement U.N. prosecutors said they concluded Ndimbati died in 1997 in Rwanda. Read more

Director Dave Green will now be allowed to shop the hybrid live-action/animated movie to other potential distributors for a theatrical or streaming release, EW has confirmed. Actor Denzel Washington will be coming together once again to work with his frequent collaborator, the director Antoine Fuqua. The pair have previously worked on Fuqua’s Training Day and The Equalizer — two of Washington’s most famous roles.
The Fences star previously portrayed gritty street life in both action-packed movies. However, this time, it looks like Washington will have a starkly different role, as he is set to play the ancient general of Carthage, Hannibal, in an as-yet-untitled movie for Netflix.
The forthcoming film is currently being written by John Logan, the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator and Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, so he knows a thing or two about historical epics. Read more

Liberian President George Weah faced a tight run-off election on Tuesday as he seeks to defeat a repeat challenger and win a second term in the West African nation.
The former international footballer easily defeated Joseph Boakai in the 2017 run-off, but results from the first round of balloting last month showed the two neck and neck with Mr Weah with 43.83% of the vote and Mr Boakai with 43.44%.

Ballon d’Or nominee and Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala; Rasheedat Ajibade, and other five female Nigerian players have been nominated for the 2023 Confederation of African Football Women’s Player of the Year award.
The nomination list released by the football association on Tuesday had 30 female players across Africa, with Nigeria having the highest number of nominees.

In an order, Section 21 of Barcelona’s high court confirmed Alves’ prosecution, concluding that the victim’s and witnesses’ statements as well as expert corroboration provide enough evidence to try him for sexual assault.
