Drug trafficker jailed 9 months for trading in cannabis (NewTelegraph)

For dealing in 6.5 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, a.k.a. marijuana, a 35-year-old man, Muhammad Nuruddeen, was on Wednesday convicted and sentenced to nine months imprisonment.

Nurudeen was sent to jail by a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, presided over by Justice Abimbola Awogboro, after he pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

According to the prosecutor, Mr. Femi Adebayo, the convict was arrested with the drug on November 24, 2022, at his residence, where he was selling the prohibited weed. Read more

Man defiles 3-year-old in Lagos day care (NewTelegraph)

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has called on parents to ensure their children and wards are cared for at registered and approved schools and day care centres in the state, as a man, simply identified as Nonso, has been apprehended for defiling a three-year-old child.

According to a statement by the agency on Wednesday, the call was made by the Executive Secretary, Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, when the agency received the case of defilement of the three-year-old toddler by Nonso in a day care centre where the survivor attends.

“The case was reported by the mother of the survivor at the agency on the 14th of December, 2022.

“The DSVA Field Operations Officers reported the case at the Family Support Unit of the Ikotun Police Station. Read more

Doctor who raped wife’s niece said virginity outdated – Witness (Punch)

A child forensic specialist, Mrs Olabisi Ajayi-Kayode, on Tuesday, told a Lagos State Sexual Offences Court, Ikeja, that a 15-year-old minor allegedly defiled by her aunt’s husband, Dr Olufemi Olaleye, said the defendant told her virginity was outdated.

She stated that the victim also told her that Olaleye, the Medical Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, after raping her, used tissue paper to whip off the blood that came out of her private parts.Ajayi-Kayode, a lawyer who works with Cece Yara Foundation, said in her findings, she discovered that the child was introduced to sexual activities by Olaleye.

Olaleye is facing two counts of defilement and sexual assault by penetration of his wife’s niece.Read more

Lagos command begins replacement of Ajah policemen (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has begun the redeployment of police officers attached to the Ajiwe Police Division, Ajah.

PUNCH Metro gathered that some of the policemen were picked from stations around the community.

The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Abiodun Alabi, had on Monday ordered the transfer of all the policemen attached to the division with immediate replacement from other divisions.

The development came after an investigation by PUNCH Metro on how policemen from the division were caught consuming alcohol after patronising vendors on the premises of the division. Read more

Ajah DPO transferred as police redeploy cops, commend PUNCH (Punch)

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, has ordered the transfer of all policemen attached to the Ajiwe Police Division, Ajah.

The state police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer at the station had also been changed.

Hundeyin said shanties around the station had been dismantled, adding that similar measures would be replicated across divisions in the state.

Motorist traps, drags traffic robber on Lagos road (Punch)

Members of the Oodua People’s Congress have detained a 23-year-old traffic robber, Jeda Sarumi, for allegedly attempting to rob a motorist at 7-up Junction, Ikosi Road in the Ketu Local Government Area of Lagos State.

A member of the Gani Adams-led OPC faction, Alfeez Alago, said the suspect belonged to a gang of thieves that robbed in traffic every night.

He said, “I was at the security post around 9pm last Thursday when some guys and a lady brought this man to us. They said his gang members collected their phones and money at 7-up Bus Stop.”

One of the victims, Michael Ugo, told PUNCH Metro that he was heading for Lagos around 7pm from Lotto, Ogun State, when his phone rang. Read more

Brazil returnee hides cocaine in candies, cream (Punch)

Men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a Brazil returnee, Agbasi Prosper, with 105 parcels of cocaine concealed in candies at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on Christmas Day.

The suspect was nabbed at the ‘D’ Arrival Hall of the MMIA during inward clearance of passengers from Sao Paulo, Brazil, via Doha, on Qatar Airways, on Sunday, December 25, 2022.

The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, said an initial search of the suspect’s two bags did not reveal anything incriminating but NDLEA officers took a second look at his duty-free shopping nylon bags containing packs of candies.

Babafemi noted that a thorough examination of the bags revealed that the packs of candies concealed 105 parcels of cocaine weighing 2.8 kilograms and 43 grams of cannabis. Read more

Raheem: Court remands killer cop (Punch)

A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday remanded the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Drambi Vandi, in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, over alleged unlawful shooting and killing of a pregnant lawyer, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, in Lagos on Christmas Day.

The Chief Magistrate, Miss Adeola Olatunbosun, ordered that Vandi be remanded till January 30, 2023, pending the legal advice on the case from the Office of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

The defendant was remanded following an application by Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN.

Lagos students lodge classmates in hotels for sex romps (Punch)

Some students of the Federal Government College, Ijaniki, Lagos State, have been caught after absconding from school to lodge female classmates in hotels for sex romps.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the students, who were all boarders, had on different occasions jumped the school’s fence with their female counterparts and stayed out of school for days.

Findings by our correspondent revealed that the students involved in the act were between the ages of 14 and 17.

It was learnt that for more than three sessions, including the just-concluded first term, some of the students, numbering about seven males and five females, had been leaving the school unnoticed. Read more
