The Department of State Services was said to have quizzed controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi over his interview on Arise Television that Nigerian soldiers aid and abet bandits.
The controversial Islamic cleric was invited to the Kaduna office of the nation’s secret police, according to the Hausa Service of the Voice of America, monitored on Friday.
However, Gumi’s spokesman,Malam Tukur Mamu in an interview with the Hausa Service of the VOA, dismissed the allegation against Gumi, saying that there was nowhere in the TV interview where Gumi categorically accused the entire military.
The spokesman explained that what Gumi said was what people have been saying and “even the soldiers have been saying that there could be some bad eggs amongst them.”Mamu, therefore, urged the military and the TV company to apologize to Sheihk Gumi and retract their statements against him or else he would seek legal action.
