Dufil, Bolanle Ambode fete kids to mark Children’s Day (Guardian)
Dufil Prima Foods, makers of Indomie Noodles, under the auspices of its Children Fan Club, has flagged off this year’s edition of Children’s Day celebration. The event, which hosted over 100,000 pupils from various schools across Nigeria, had in attendance, the first lady of Lagos State, Bolanle Patience Ambode. During the event, the children were engaged in dance competitions and quiz contests aimed at stimulating their intellectual reasoning. They also enjoyed other fun activities, which include bumper car, carousel, the rockets, the pirates’ ship, the spinner, the tea cup, disco ride, the air bicycle, cartoon shows, cultural performances and face painting, all in a bid to deepen the social interactions among them. Grandma Wura gets set for Children’s Day (ThisDay)
Proud African Roots presents Story – Theatre with Grandma Wura. This show is children’s theatre at its best, with moral lessons for young minds. It is a blend of African tales, music and dance performances on stage using spectacular lighting and colourful costumes. For this year, a three-day event with a total of nine shows in celebration of Children’s Day is set to take place on the 25th, 26th and 27th of May at the Terra Kulture Arena, Victoria Island, Lagos. This year’s edition features the story of ‘Ebi-Bulu’, a musical theatre which is created by Proud African Roots and written by Charles Nwaokolo. Though it is the desire and prayers of individuals to become a landlord in their community but the answer to that wish has turned to a nightmare for some in a Lagos community. ‘Ownership concept will bring economic growth, reduce cost infrastructure’ (Guardian)
Eliezer Group has called on Lagosians to adopt ownership concept in management of the state’s assets, infrastructure and environment to avoid decay. The group, an advocate of Integrated Facility Management (IFM) emphasized the need for Lagosians to embrace maintenance culture through ownership concept in utilizing public infrastructures even as the challenge of inadequate infrastructural maintenance plan is on the high side. According to the group, considering the ever growing number of Lagos State population which by the state government stands close to 20 million, there should be an appropriate assets and facility management plan in the state to protect both individual and state investments in assets and infrastructure. Lagos LOC plans big for ANA Convention (Independent)
The Local Organising Committee of the 37th international convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has been putting heads together since its inauguration early this month, to give a befitting convention to Nigerian writers. The convention, which is billed to hold in Lagos between October 25 and October 28, 2018, will be hosted by Lagos chapter of ANA. The theme of the convention is ‘Literature Mega Cities and Mega Narratives. Speaking during a meeting with other members of the committee, held at Prince Anthony Hotel, Anthony Village, Lagos on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, Akin Adeoya, chairman of the LOC commended the members for their transparency and willingness to put in all their resources to ensure that the annual event is a grandeur. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, John Boyega to shoot Hollywood standard movies in Lagos (Tribune)
The Lagos State government through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, has confirmed that it will be giving concession to two Hollywood movies to be shot in Lagos State later this year. One of the movies is the movie adaption of the novel, “Americanah” by Nigeria’s multiple-award-winning novelist, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The other is the movie project of Nigerian-British actor, John Boyega. The Honourable Commissioner of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr Steve Ayorinde, who made the disclosure to members of the press at the Alausa secretariat expounded on the tourism cum economic potentials of the movie projects. All is set for music unlimited as Showgear, an entertainment promotion outfit, and its organizing partners have announced that Lagos will be joining the global celebration of music in the month of June for a third consecutive year under the umbrella of Make Music Lagos (MML). Make Music Lagos is the Lagos version of Make Music Day, a festival of free live music that holds in more than 120 countries across the world to commemorate World Music Day under the guidance of the US based Make Music Alliance. Since its launch, the MML festival has had two back-to-back editions. The first in 2016, which delivered three concerts with performances by Bez, Cobhams Asuquo, Tosin Martins, Olufunmi, Wura Samba, Johnny Drille, Pita, Wole Oni, and the Lagos Mainland Choir among others. Lagosians recount pains, gains from operators of Pedestrian Bridges (Independent)
Bridges are part of the infrastructural development that the government of a country or state is meant to provide in their responsibility to take care of the citizens. However, oversight or other issues prevent the government from seeing and taking it on as their personal responsibility, a situation which lets the responsibilities fall into the hands of private operators who seek to help their communities. 2yr-old lone occupant escapes death as car somersaults in Lagos (Vanguard)
A two-year-old child escaped death by the whiskers yesterday, after the car in which he was abandoned by his mother, somersaulted into a 20ft gully in Magodo area of Lagos. Doctors at an undisclosed hospital in Ikeja were said to be giving the child comprehensive treatment, as at time of writing this report. The toddler’s mother, Mrs Yetunde Olaore, was said to have left him in her Sports Utility Van,SUV with plate number AAA 507 DE, as she went into the house to pick an item. Read more
Evans’ lawyer to judge: It’s wrong to file same charges in two different courts against my client (Vanguard)
Alleged billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a Evans, yesterday again asked a Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere to quash all the charges filed against him by the Lagos State Government. He said that similar charges were already pending before a Lagos high court, and requested that he should be tried by one judge. The Lagos State Government had brought a fresh five-count charge bordering on conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping and attempted murder against Evans and three others. Rasaq Ayobami is an Information Technology expert at a multimedia outfit in Oregun, Ikeja, the heart of Lagos State. At 5pm last Wednesday, he left his residence in the Agbado area of Ogun State to resume for a night duty at 7pm. All things being equal, he could cover the distance within an hour drive. But envisaging the heavy traffic he would likely encounter at that time of the day when a throng of motorists would occupy the road on the way to their respective homes, he decided to set out on the journey in his Toyota Camry car two hours ahead the resumption time. As envisaged, the 45-year-old ran into a long stretch of traffic jam the moment he got to a junction at Fagba, a suburb of the Nigeria’s commercial nerve. He joined the vehicular movement which was at a snail’s pace as he intermittently applied the throttle to catch up with the little space in front of him before another car stole into the spot from behind. Woman arraigned for assaulting Chief Magistrate during proceedings (Punch)
The police in Lagos have arraigned a woman, Alexia Thomas, before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly assaulting a Chief Magistrate. The woman reportedly caused commotion in the court building while proceedings were ongoing. The CM, who asked not to be named, was said to have summoned her to the court, but she reportedly refused saying she did not know him. Saturday Punch learnt that the confusion had ensued between Thomas and a police prosecutor, who wanted to arrest her for allegedly jumping bail. Read more

Mastermind of Lagos kids abducted by nanny arrested three years after (Punch)
Three years down the line, the long arm of the law has caught up with Waheed Abubakar, the husband of a nanny, who abducted three children of her bosses in the Surulere area of Lagos State two days after she was employed via OLX – an online sales portal. The 41-year-old suspect, a commercial tricycle rider, was tracked down at his park in the Ikorodu area of the city by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team. Bearing a pseudonym Mary Adebiyi, the nanny, had fled with the three children aged 11 months, four and six on April 7, 2015 when their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leke Orekoya, were at work. Read more

Attempt by a 200 level Computer Science student of Caleb University and another suspected member of his gang to snatch a car from an Uber driver in Ikorodu area of Lagos has been botched following their arrest. During preliminary investigation, one of the suspects was discovered to be son of a serving Local Government Chairman in Lagos . The suspects: Gideon Bamidele (19) and Hafeez Anifowose, (20) as gathered, boarded the Uber cab, a Toyota Corolla car with plate number KJA 911 EG, at the early hours of Monday , in Surulere, heading towards Agric, Ikorodu. Drunken apprentice mechanic crushes highway sweeper’s leg (Punch)
When 34-year-old Gbenya Oluyisola left for work along Agege Motor Road, Mushin, penultimate Wednesday, little did he know he would return with one of his legs amputated. Oluyisola works with Visionscape Limited, a newly established waste management company in the state. Saturday Punch learnt that the victim and his two colleagues were packing refuse at Olorunshogo Bus Stop, Mushin, into a truck when a Honda driven by an apprentice mechanic knocked him down. It was gathered that the mechanic, Ibrahim Muta, who was reportedly drunk, had wanted to overtake a vehicle when he lost control of the car. Read more
4 suspected cultists arraigned in Lagos (Nation)
Four suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity were on Friday arraigned at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State. The accused are – Ademola Solomon (23), Nweke Christian (24), Sunday Ikoh (24) and Lawal Afolabi (21). They are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and belonging to a secret cult. The prosecutor, Sgt. Bosede Adegeshin, told the court that the accused with others at large committed the offences on May 22 at Aina Folabi Street, Lowa Estate, Ikorodu, at 11.42 p.m. “The accused and their accomplices, who are yet to be arrested, belonged to an unlawful society called ‘Eiye confraternity’. Church boosts supporters’ club World Cup plan (Punch)
The plans of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club to travel to Russia for the 2018 World Cup received a boost during the week when the Spiritual Head of Love of Christ Generation Church (Cherubim and Seraphim), London, Rev. Mother Esther Ajayi, donated some money to the club. The money, according to the club, would take about 25 members of the club in an all-expenses paid trip to Russia. She made the donation, when members of the club led by its President-General Rafiu Ladipo paid her a courtesy visit at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers Ikeja, Lagos.
