The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a 63-year-old man who allegedly pretended to be a journalist working with the anti-corruption agency to extort money from someone.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, said the suspect, Ernesto Chukwukamma, was arrested for pretending to be a journalist connected to the EFCC.

Oyewale said Chukwukamma tricked someone into giving him ₦2 million by promising to help stop a report that would have damaged the person’s reputation. The report was about an alleged ₦4.5 billion Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) fraud.

The suspect told his victim that journalists who work closely with the EFCC had written a damaging report. This report allegedly claimed that the victim had stolen $4.5 billion when the PTF was being closed down. (Businessday)
