The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a 63-year-old man who allegedly pretended to be a journalist working with the anti-corruption agency to extort money from someone.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, said the suspect, Ernesto Chukwukamma, was arrested for pretending to be a journalist connected to the EFCC.
Oyewale said Chukwukamma tricked someone into giving him โฆ2 million by promising to help stop a report that would have damaged the personโs reputation. The report was about an alleged โฆ4.5 billion Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) fraud.
The suspect told his victim that journalists who work closely with the EFCC had written a damaging report. This report allegedly claimed that the victim had stolen $4.5 billion when the PTF was being closed down. (Businessday)
