EFCC declares socialite Aisha Achimugu wanted for alleged money laundering (Punch)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared businesswoman and socialite Aisha Achimugu wanted.
The agency’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, made this known in a circular released via the EFCC’s X handle on Friday.
According to the EFCC, Achimugu is wanted by the agency in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy and money laundering. Read more
Tuberculosis kills 35 in Nasarawa (Guardian)
Nasarawa State Government said that 35 people died from tuberculosis (TB)-related complications across the state in 2024.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Gaza Gwamna, the Nasarawa State made this known at a press conference in Lafia on Friday to mark the 2025 World Tuberculosis Day.
He revealed that the state recorded 8,190 TB cases in 2024, with 21 per cent of the patients co-infected with HIV. Read more
Police ban Emir Sanusi II from organising Sallah Durbar in Kano (Leadership)
The Kano State Police Command has banned all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah festivities, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.
The announcement was made by the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday.

President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Thursday joined other Nigerians to celebrate the life and times of a former Presidential Spokesman, Dr Doyin Okupe.
Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu and others paid tributes to Okupe at the Service of Songs organised to honour him in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Okupe, also a former Director-General of the Labour Party (LP), passed away on March 7, and will be buried on Friday in Iperu, his home town in Ogun. Read more
FG clarifies shooting of Immigration officer (Nation)
The Federal Government has clarified the alleged shooting of Immigration officer by a Chinese businessman in Minna, Niger state.
The Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo offered the clarification in a statement by his media aide, Alao Babatunde in Abuja.
Tunji-Ojo said: “Following the report of the alleged shooting of an officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Niger State, further investigations have revealed that the officer was hit by a stray bullet that was neither shot on the order of the Chinese company nor its employee. Read more
Delta nursing student faces sanction over TikTok video during Remi Tinubu’s visit (Tribune)
A nursing student at Delta State College of Nursing Science, identified as Osato Edobor, is facing disciplinary action over an unauthorised TikTok video recorded during an official visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday.
In a statement signed by the provost of the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, Mrs Eshegaghe Rita Ogonne on 27th March 2025.
Tinubu’s wife had attended the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme at the Dome Event Center, Asaba, where 10,000 professional kits, including Crocs and scrubs, were distributed to midwives from the South-South geopolitical zone. Read more
How firms inflate operating expenses, loan repayment to evade taxes – Ex-ICPC Chair (Channels)
A former Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Prof Bolaji Owasanoye (SAN), has disclosed that some companies in Nigeria inflate operating expenses and credit repayments to evade tax.
Owasanoye stated this on the Friday edition of Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, a socio-political programme aired on Channels Television.
According to him, illicit financial flows and tax evasion have assumed a different dimension, with some companies claiming they pay expatriates who purportedly work for them online to move money illicitly from Nigeria to countries abroad. Read more
Dua Lipa wins ‘‘Levitating’’ copyright case with a little help from Ed Sheeran (Independent)
British pop singer Dua Lipa has won a lawsuit that claimed she copied the melody of her hit song “Levitating” from a Seventies disco track.
Songwriters L Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer sued Lipa in 2022, accusing her of infringing on their copyright for two songs: their 1979 track “Wiggle and Giggle All Night”, recorded by Cory Daye, and the 1980 song “Don Diablo” by Spanish singer Miguel Bosé, which they successfully acquired the rights to through a previous copyright case.
The pair, who co-wrote several hits in the Seventies, accused Lipa, 29, of using their “signature melody” from “Wiggle” six times through “Levitating”, around a third of the total song length. Read more
Kenyan police officer killed in suspected gang attack in Haiti (AfricaNews)
Another blow to the Kenyan-led multinational security support mission, or MSS, which has been deployed to Haiti to combat gang violence.
The MSS says a Kenyan police was killed on Tuesday in an attack by suspected gang members.
He was part of a group that had been dispatched to recover a Haitian police vehicle that had got stuck in a ditch, suspected to have been dug by gangs. Read more

Linkin Park have released their new single ‘Up From The Bottom’.
The new track follows the release of the ‘From Zero’ comeback album last November and the single – which was released on Thursday (27.03.25) night – was also shared with an accompanying music video.
‘Up From the Bottom’ will feature on a deluxe edition of ‘From Zero’ – which is being released on May 16 – alongside other new tracks ‘Let You Fade’ and ‘Unshatter’ and five live songs.
One of the band’s lead vocalists Mike Shinoda said in a statement about the new single: “‘Up From The Bottom’ was created in between tours this year, infused with the electricity of those first shows back after a long hiatus. Read more

Will Smith references his infamous slap of comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars ceremony in his new album, Based On A True Story.
The American actor and musician, 56, stormed the stage at the 94th Academy Awards and hit Rock after he made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss.

Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda movie gets 2027 release date (Polygon)
The live-action The Legend of Zelda movie will be released worldwide on March 26, 2027, Nintendo announced Friday. Nintendo revealed the film’s release date through its new smart-device app, Nintendo Today, not through more traditional social media channels like Instagram, YouTube, or X (formerly known as Twitter).
Nintendo’s Zelda movie was announced in 2023. Nintendo is partnering with Sony Pictures Entertainment for the project, with The Legend of Zelda co-creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Hollywood veteran Avi Arad producing. Miyamoto said in 2023 that he’d been working on the movie for “many years now.”
Wes Ball, director of the Maze Runner film trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will helm the live-action adaptation of the fantasy franchise. Ball told Polygon last year that he wants his take on “The Legend of Zelda” to be more “grounded” and “real,” and not based on fully motion-captured computer graphics. Read more
Deadly earthquakes rock Thailand, Myanmar (BBC)
People in Myanmar and Thailand have been talking about their shock and horror after a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck on Friday, toppling buildings across the two countries.
A resident in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city, told the BBC the shakes were “quite intense” and lasted for around four minutes.
Speaking to the BBC World Service’s Newsday programme, the man, who wished to stay anonymous for security reasons, described waking from a nap to the building shaking violently. Read more

Former Barcelona and Brazil defender Dani Alves has had a rape conviction overturned on appeal by a Spanish court.
The appeals division of Catalonia’s High Court of Justice unanimously upheld the appeal by the 41-year-old and acquitted him, saying the case against him had “inconsistencies and contradictions”.
Alves was sentenced to four and a half years in prison in February 2024 after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in 2022. Read more
