EFCC nabs 45 suspected internet fraudsters in Lagos (Vanguard)
Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday arrested 45 suspected internet fraudsters.
The anti-graft agency said the suspects were arrested on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Their arrest followed intelligence on the activities of an Organised Cybercrime Syndicate Network, OCSN, operating in that axis of the state. Read more
Househelp kills employer 7 days after resuming work (Vanguard)
Tragedy struck in the Gbagada area of Lagos, after a yet-to-be-identified woman was stabbed to death by her househelp in her 29, Kiniun-Ifa Street, Sawmill apartment.
No one could tell when exactly the fleeing househelp, identified simply as Peter, committed the murder.
However, the lifeless body of the woman, according to information gathered by Vanguard, was discovered on Saturday, March 9, by her son who came to visit.
Police foil kidnappers’ attempt to abduct students in Lagos school (Vanguard)
Attempts by some kidnappers to abduct some pupils of an undisclosed Primary school in Ijegun, a Lagos suburb, has been foiled by the Police, following the arrest of a suspected member of the kidnap gang.
A kindergarten and two pupils were rescued in the process. The kidnappers, as gathered, invaded the school on Monday, March 11,2024, after the closing bell was rung.
Some of them were said to have positioned their operational motorcycles close to the school premises, waiting for other members who went inside to get their targets. Read more
Court jails surety for aiding suspect’s escape (Vanguard)
A Lagos Magistrates Court, sitting in Apapa, has sentenced a man, Nwachukwu Oliver, to one-year imprisonment for aiding the escape of a suspect, Abonu Anslem, who is standing trial for forgery and breach of peace.
The police had charged Nwachukwu before the court in 2019, for allegedly standing as surety for Anslem but failed to produce him on several occasions to answer for his crime.
One of the four count charges against the defendant reads: “That you Nwachukwu Oliver and one other now at large on September 11, 218, at Magistrate Court 10, Apapa in the Apapa Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to obstruct, prevent and pervert the course of justice by aiding the escape of one Abonu Anslem, who is standing trial for the offence of conspiracy, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and forgery in the charge No 1/051/2018 at Magistrate Court 10, Ajegunle Apapa, Lagos and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 97 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. Police arraign four for sexual assault, rape (Punch)
Four suspects have been arraigned before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka of the Yaba Magistrates’ Court for alleged rape, sexual assault, and the creation of a video showing the assault.
The defendants: Ibe Obinna, Sheu Robiu, Olorunlayo Emmanuel, and Adebanjo Ayomide, were arraigned on Monday on three counts of forcible sexual intercourse and the creation and dissemination of videos depicting the assault, which were subsequently posted to social media.
It was gathered that on January 15, 2024, the defendants conspired among themselves to forcibly engage in sexual intercourse with the alleged victim. They executed the plan and allegedly raped the victim on the said day. Read more
Lagos ex-governor Ambode’s chef remanded for alleged theft (Punch)
A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Monday, ordered the remand of one Victor Abayomi, a chef to the former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, for allegedly stealing valuables worth millions of naira at the former governor’s Ikoyi residence.
Chief Magistrate Mr Peter Nwaka, who made the order, remanded the defendant for 30 days at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
Abayomi is facing two counts bordering on conspiracy and theft preferred against him by the State Security Service. Read more
Man jailed 5 years for smuggling drugs in loudspeakers (Punch)
The Federal High Court in Lagos convicted and sentenced a man, Taiwo Anuoluwapo, to five years imprisonment for smuggling 23.3 kilogrammes of a synthetic strain of cannabis sativa, popularly called Canadian loud, into the country concealed in loudspeakers.
Anuoluwapo was arraigned last week Tuesday alongside a freight forwarder, Babalola Gboyega, on three counts of conspiracy and unlawful possession of cannabis sativa, preferred against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
During the arraignment, Anuoluwapo admitted to committing the offences, but the freight forwarder denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Police grill Primeboy over petition by Mohbad’s wife (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has revealed that Ibrahim Owodunni, aka Primeboy, was interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, on Tuesday, owing to a petition filed by Wunmi, the wife of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Primeboy was arrested during a scheduled visit to the SCID alongside Ayobami Fisayo, aka Spending.

The Lagos State Police Command has re-arrested afro singer, Ibrahim Owodunni, aka Primeboy.
PUNCH Online learnt that Primeboy was arrested Tuesday morning during his visit to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Panti, Yaba, alongside Ayobami Fisayo aka Spending.

LASTMA arrests 19 hoodlums, impounds 123 vehicles (Punch)
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has disclosed that the agency arrested 19 suspected hoodlums for extorting unsuspecting members of the public in the state.
The Public Relations Officer, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed in a statement made available to PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, stating that a preliminary investigation had shown that the hoodlums had been caught using fake identity cards to trick unsuspecting drivers and roadside traders into believing they were legitimate government agents.
He said, “Nineteen notorious hoodlums were arrested during an enforcement operation over the illegal collection of parking dues from innocent motorists.
56-year-old jailed 2 years for cocaine trafficking (Nation)
A Federal High Court in Lagos State yesterday sentenced Livinus Igbokwe (56) to two years imprisonment for trafficking 1.2 Kilogrames of cocaine.
Justice Ibrahim Kala sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and trafficking of the banned substance brought against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Justice Kala however gave Igbokwe an option of N500,000 fine in lieu of the jail-term. Read more
Undergraduate jailed 18 months for $7k dating scam (Nation)
Justice Rahman Oshodi of an Ikeja Special Offences Court yesterday sentenced a 100-level university part-time student of computer science, Emmanuel Victor to 18 months imprisonment for online dating scam.
The convict was however given an option of fine in the sum of N4 million
Victor, 23, had benefitted $7,000 from an online dating scam before his arrest.
