EFCC arrests 25 suspected Internet fraudsters in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested 25 suspects for their alleged involvement in computer-related fraud.
The Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, listed the suspects to include: Ibrahim Olaiwon Olatunji, Kelechi Daniel David, Olutayo Oluwapelumi, Abiola Baruwa Gideon, Adesuyi Toheeb Adeyika, Wano Abdullahi Ahmed, Imoukhuede Idowu Peter and Ige Emmanuel Oluwatobi.
Also on the list are Durodola Peter Tolulope, Makanjuola Olamide Elijah, Emmanuel Edward Enyiema, Oguniran Samuel Boluwatife, Onikosi Olasukunmi Idris and Abdulateef Adegoke Oriyomi. Read more
Ex-Dangote GM, two others jailed for $32,000 insurance fraud (Punch)
Justice S. S. Ogunsanya of the Lagos State High Court, on Tuesday, sentenced a former General Manager of the Dangote Industries Limited, Mojisola Aladejobi, to seven years’ imprisonment over a $32,000 insurance fraud.
Aladejobi was sentenced alongside two others, Raymond Akanolu and Balogun Alaba.
The convicts were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on two counts of conspiracy and attempt to obtain money by false pretences to the tune of $32,000.
It was gathered that the convicts had sometime in October 2014 conspired among themselves to defraud Dangote Industries Limited of the sum of $32,000 by inflating the premium for the renewal of insurance policy cover for its Hawker aircraft with registration number 5N-DGN. Read more
Controversy as police recover lovers’ corpses from Lagos hotel (Punch)
The remains of a man, identified simply as John, and his girlfriend, Darasimi, have been recovered from a hotel in the Fagaba area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the lovers might have been poisoned.
John and Darasimi were said to have lodged in the hotel, but their motionless bodies were found in the hotel room.
Chronicling what transpired after the corpses were discovered in a post on Instablog9ja, a source was quoted to have said that Darasimi’s sister, who came to claim her corpse, hinted that she was supposed to be in school instead of lodging in a hotel with John. Read more
Drivers, cyclists clash with union members over extortion in Lagos (DailyTrust)
Many persons were injured in a fracas on Monday morning when some commercial motorcycle riders and bus drivers clashed with members of transport unions at Iyana-Oba bus stop on Mile 2, Badagry expressway.
The melee started over what the drivers and okada riders referred to as extortion of money from them by the union members.
Commercial bus drivers plying the Iyana-Oba/Badagry axis of the road went on strike last Thursday to express their displeasure over the recent hike in the cost of the transport union tickets from N200 to N1000.
The drivers alleged that the different unions made it mandatory for them to purchase the tickets without which they (drivers) would not be allowed to operate in the area. Read more
Lagos police arrest three cultists, impound gang’s bus (Punch)
Three suspected cult members, Joshua Ubokuho, Emmanuel Yusuf and Adewale Hammed, have been apprehended by the Lagos State Police Command and two cutlasses including an operational bus were recovered from them.
This is just as the command promised to raid hideouts of criminals unleashing terror on the residents of Lekki, Ajah, Badore, Sangotedo, Elemoro, Ibeju-Lekki and Akodo areas of the state.
In a statement on Saturday, the police spokesperson in the state, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution. Read more
Woman accuses police of demanding N200,000 after releasing missing child to impostor (Punch)
A grieving mother, Joy Iheanacho, has accused policemen attached to the Juvenile Welfare Centre at the Alakara Police Division, Lagos State, of demanding N200,000 from her to track the impostor they allegedly released her missing child to after demanding proof that she is the mother.
PUNCH Metro gathered from footage reposted on social media by @segalink that Joy’s son was returning from school when he suddenly went missing four years ago.
While efforts were on to locate the whereabouts of the child, Joy said she was able to track down the location of her son through a Facebook post.
The post read, “Found Child by name Chibuike Ogbonna, Male 9yrs old, fair in complexion, speaks English and Igbo lang, hails from Agba in Oboama, Ohaji LGA of Imo State, he is presently in Ojo Division, Lagos State Police Command, grateful assist and repost so that if any of his family members can be trace they can call this number. 08031939075. Lagos seals 11 event centres, nightclubs (Punch)
The Lagos State government has sealed no fewer than 11 facilities, including event centres, lounge and nightclubs among others for contravening COVID-19 order and directives.
The Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr Lanre Mojola, in a statement on Sunday said the affected event centres had informed the agency of their intention to organise parties and events, but the number of people met by officials of the agency was more than what they got approval for.
“Those facilities were sealed for non-compliance with COVID-19 regulations of the federal and state government,” Mojola said. Read more
Police swoop on suspected deadly cultists, robbers in Lekki, Ikorodu, arrest 56 (Guardian)
Operatives of Lagos State Police Command attached to Elemoro Division have arrested suspected cultists at Imalete Alafia, Ibeju Lekki.
The suspects are Joshua Ubokuho, Emmanuel Yusuf, and Adewale Hammed.
According to Lagos State police spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, 50 suspected armed robbers and cultists were nabbed at Imota, Igbokuta, Adamo and Emure in Ikorodu area of the state during a sting operation carried out by the Commissioner of Police Strike Force between Friday March 5 and Sunday March 7, 2021. Panic as robbers terrorise Lagos community, kill guard (Punch)
Residents of Ogungbesan Street, Coker, along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos, say they are under siege from robbers that have been terrorising the neighbourhood for about one month.
The incidents took a turn for the worse penultimate Tuesday when a security guard in one of the houses on the street, Garuba Muhammed, was shot dead by robbers who attacked a compound he manned.
City Round learnt that the deceased’s younger brother, Musa, who lived with him, was receiving treatment at a hospital for gunshot wounds he sustained in the leg during the attack. Read more
NSCDC bursts illegal foreign SIM card dealer (Vanguard)
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Lagos Command, has paraded a man, (name withheld) for allegedly dealing in illegal foreign Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card business.
The NSCDC, Lagos Commandant, Mr Paul Ayeni, while parading the suspect penultimate Thursday in Lagos, said that the 35-year-old was caught on March 3, around 5p.m. at Computer Village, Lagos
The NSCDC boss said that the suspect was arrested by the Joint Task Force of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and NSCDC, Lagos Command.

Land grabbers defy Lagos govt order, destroy structure on widow’s property (Punch)
Suspected hoodlums have invaded the property of a 75-year-old widow, Mrs Kehinde Agbetanmije, destroying a structure on it.
This was despite the intervention of the Lagos State Special Task Force on Land Grabbers, which asked parties in the matter to keep off the land.

Fake COVID-19 Results: 5 racketeers arrested at Lagos airport (Leadership)
A combined team of detectives attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Airport Command, and Aviation Security (AVSEC) of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN ) have arrested five suspected syndicates which specialise in forging fake COVID-19 certificates.
Out of the five suspects, 35-year old Adewale Aderele is a guarantor to one of the suspects who is now at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, CP, Abubakar Umar Bature disclosed the arrest Thursday during a press briefing held at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
The syndicates include: Archibong Idorenyin, 34 years owner of DAT cybercafe who is alleged to forge the virological screening test results; Abdulmalik Ibrahim (24) and Moses Sunday (20) who are staff of DAT Internet Cafe. The other suspect is Popoola Adewale of Patovilki Airport cleaning services. Read more
Couple who allegedly aided son to defile minor arraigned (Punch)
A couple, Juliet and Boniface, who allegedly aided their son, Ebuka Nwobodo, to defile a minor, were, penultimate Wednesday, brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The couple was arraigned on a charge of conspiracy, while Ebuka appeared on a two-count charge of conspiracy and defilement.
However, they all pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. A. Oshoniyi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N250,000, with two sureties each in like sum.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Kehinde Olatunde, had told the court that the defendants committed the offences sometimes in 2016, at No. 7, Odunsi St., Bariga. Read more
Police re-arraign female doctor over false rape allegations (Vanguard)
The Police penultimate Wednesday re-arraigned a female medical doctor, Bolanle Aseyan, before a Lagos Federal High Court over rape allegation.
The defendant is standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on false publication on rape allegation, preferred against her by the Police.
The police prosecuting counsel, Emmanuel Eze, in a charge marked FHC/L/ 260c/2020, alleged that 25-year-old Doctor, committed the alleged offences between June 29 and August 14, 2020, at number 12A, Molade Okoya Thomas, Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, Lagos.The medical director, who was first arraigned before Yaba Chief Magistrate Court, sometimes in November 2020, was alleged to have committed the offences while observing her internship at Federal Medical Center, Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
