Alleged N84m fraud: EFCC to arraign Edrian Osagie days after siege at court (Channels)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign a suspect, Edrian Osagie, two days after its operatives kept a vigil at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
According to documents obtained by Channels Television on Wednesday, Osagie is charged with two counts bordering on fraud and stealing to the tune of N84 million.
The suspect is to be arraigned before Justice Serifat Solebo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja.
In the first count, the EFCC accused Osagie of obtaining money by false pretence contrary to Sections 1(1) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act No. 14 of 2006. Read more
Lagos housewife allegedly kills husband with pressing iron during argument (Punch)
A housewife, identified as Motunrayo, has allegedly killed her husband, Alaba, aka Bama, in the Abule-Egba area of Lagos State.
Punch Metro gathered that the couple had an argument at their house, which degenerated into a fight.
Motunrayo was alleged to have plugged a pressing iron, which she used to inflict burns on her husband’s chest.
The victim was said to have died from the injuries. Read more
Court remands 2 for trespassing on Lagos airport (Punch)
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, ordered that Michael Elendu, 27; and Godwin Lorngohol, 35, who pleaded guilty to trespassing on the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos airport be remanded.
Magistrate M. F. Onamusi ordered that the defendants be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending sentence.
Onamusi adjourned the case until January 27 for the review of facts of the case and sentencing.
The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, are charged with trespassing and unlawful entry. Read more
Court sentences man to life imprisonment for defiling 3-year-old girl (NewTelegraph)
An Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court, Lagos yesterday sentenced one Sunday Oyedele to life imprisonment for defiling a 3-year-old neighbour’s child (name withheld). Oyedele was found guilty and convicted on a one-count charge of defilement.
The defendant had earlier been arraigned on April 29, 2019, for allegedly having unlawful sexual intercourse with the toddler at Itamaga area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
The presiding judge, Justice Abiola Soladoye said that prosecution was able to prove its case against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt. Justice Soladoye, while delivering her judgement, stated that the defendant is a sexual monster and a paedophile, who should be locked away.
According to the judge, “the charge against the defendant has been proven beyond reasonable doubt. “The defendant, having been found guilty, is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment with no option of fine. “He is also to have his name registered in the Sex Offenders Register as maintained by the Lagos State Government.” Read more
9-year-old pupil accuses teacher of defiling her (NewTelegraph)
A medical doctor, Dr Oyedeji Alagbe, yesterday narrated before an Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court how a nine-year-old pupil (name withheld) revealed to him that she was defiled by her teacher.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alagbe made the revelation yesterday during the trial of Peter Jacob, a 33-year old teacher, accused of a charge of defilement.
Led in evidence by lead prosecuting counsel, Mr Olusola Soneye, Alagbe a family physician and forensic examiner, said he was a consultant for the Mirabel Centre (a sexual assault referral center).
“The child was referred to the Mirabel Centre on Dec. 7, 2019 via the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command and I was mandated to carry out a forensic examination on her. Read more
Lagos: New police chief warns officers not to undermine his office (Sun)
The new Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, has charged Area Commanders, DPOs/HODs and tactical commanders not to undermine his position because of his familiarity with them .
The police commissioner said they should rather translate their long-time relationship with him to success in the state.
According to Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, the warning was informed by the belief that some officers he has known for some time may take undue advantage of their familiarity with him, take things for granted and abdicate their statutory duties.
CP Alabi charged the officers during his maiden meeting with them shortly after taking over the mantle of leadership as Commissioner of Police in the state at a brief ceremony held recently at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja. Read more
Missing mother of 2 found dead, body mutilated, exhumed in Lagos (Guardian)
The body of 35-year-old missing mother of two, Mercy Henry, has been found mutilated and buried in different sacks behind a building belonging to the prime suspect, Mayowa Timothy Bamidele.
The Guardian had last week Monday, January 17, 2022 reported that Mercy had told her family she was going to Ijegun, a suburb in Lagos State on December 16, 2021 and had since not been seen.
According to her 70-year-old father, Pa Henry Ekienabor, who raised the alarm, the family was apprehensive, as the whereabouts of Mercy remained unknown. He expressed the feeling that his daughter was being held captive somewhere.
Also, Bamidele had vehemently denied seeing Mercy. In fact, he maintained that he last saw her four years ago. Read more
Alleged N1.4b fraud: Court adjourns Nadabo Energy boss’ trial till March 1 (Channels)
The trial of Abubakar Peters and his company, Nadabo Energy Limited, for an alleged N1.4 billion fraud before Justice Christopher Balogun of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja,
continued on Tuesday with the cross-examination of the fifth prosecution witness, Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
During the proceedings, the defence counsel, Osagie Isiramen, was present and he continued with the cross-examination of Bawa.
Under cross-examination, Bawa identified Exhibit B as the bundle of documents submitted to the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) for processing the subsidy funds claimed by the defendant.
“This is the bundle of documents submitted by the defendant to the PPPRA, which we requested from the agency for the certified true copy and they obliged us,” he said. Read more
