Developer bags 2,670 years for duping 133 tenants of N25m (Nation)
An Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, has sentenced a property developer, Alhaji Ayobami Oseni, to 2,670 years imprisonment for duping 133 accommodation seekers of N25 million.
Chief Magistrate O. O. Olatunji convicted Oseni following his plea of guilty to 267 counts of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretenses and stealing. He sentenced Oseni to 10 years imprisonment with no option of fine on each of the 267 counts. The sentences, which are to run concurrently, take effect from April 26, 2017 when Oseni was remanded in prison custody following the revocation of his bail. Read more
Family of killed Ericsson engineer blames hospital, seeks justice (Punch)
The family of a slain engineer with Ericsson Nigeria, Adebayo Akinwunmi, who was shot dead by armed robbers, have asked the police to hunt down his killers. The family also faulted a Lagos hospital, Reddington Hospital, Ikeja, for allegedly rejecting the victim due to lack of a police report. Adebayo was killed on Sunday in Orimerunmu, Ofada-Mokoloki, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. Punch Metro had reported that the 41-year-old was attacked in his house around 1am. The four-man gang was said to have scaled the fence into the house and broken the door. Read more
Command suspends cop that led land grabbers agency to Makoko (Punch)
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, on Tuesday said the command had suspended the officer in charge of the policemen that accompanied officials of the Lagos State Special Task Force on Land Grabbers to Ori Oke community in Makoko, Yaba.
Punch Metro on May 11 had reported that armed policemen and officials of the Lagos State Special Task Force on Land Grabbers clashed with some youths in the neighbourhood during which two residents were killed. Read more
Boy, 8, tortured over allegation of being a wizard (Vanguard)
The pitiable sight of a fragile eight-year-old boy, with marks of violence all over his body sent waves down the spines of those present at the Lagos State Police Command.
The visible marks of violence were inflicted on the primary 1 pupil identified as Chinonye Iyonetu, by his aunt, Mrs Charity Iyoneto, over accusation of witchcraft. The victim as gathered was brought from his home town, in Gbaai, Nkota Local Government Area of Imo state, last year, by the suspect , after his mother abandoned him with his father.
However, his ordeal began on reaching Lagos, as the suspect allegedly beat him at the slightest provocation. Read more
Police arrest nine-man gang in Lagos (Guardian)
The Lagos State Police Command Wednesday morning arrested members of a nine-man gang during an early morning raid on their hideout around Jakande Estate, along Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos.
The Guardian gathered that a locally-made single barrel gun and several rounds of ammunition were recovered during the raid which was carried out around 5:30 am. Read more
Police arrest woman who tortured 12-year-old (Punch)
A woman, Charity Iyonetu, 45, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly torturing a 12-year-old boy for allegedly being “possessed.” This was revealed on Tuesday by the state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, during a parade of suspects at the police command headquarters in Ikeja.
It was gathered that Charity, a mother of two, on visiting her home town in Ugwuta, Imo State, observed that the victim did not go to school.
On inquiring about the boy, she was reportedly told that his father did not care about him because “the boy is possessed.” Read more
3 suspects arrested over murder at APC congress (Vanguard)
Policemen attached to Lagos State Police Command have arrested three persons over the murder of a young man during the APC Local Government Congress at Central Community Primary School, Oniwaya, Agege, Lagos on Saturday, May 12. Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, said: “The election was allegedly factionalised, which led to protest.
Consequently, some disgruntled ward members protested their non-inclusion in the electoral process. “However, during the ensuing pandemonium, gunshots were heard from a distance. When the noise died down, one Nurudeen Lanlese, aged 40 years, was found in a pool of blood. One Bosun Adigun, Sabitu Kamorudeen and Semiu Ogunbono, who were suspects in the murder, were arrested and will be charged to court after investigation.” Read more
Lagos politician batters phone repairer for meddling in fight with wife (Punch)
A phone repairer, Rasheed Sunkanmi, is in trouble after meddling in a scuffle between a Lagos politician and his wife on Jimoh Akinsanya Street, Arepo, Ogun State.
Punch Metro learnt that Sunkanmi was going home on a motorcycle when he saw a crowd on the street trying to stop the politician, identified as Odukunle Kuti, from beating up his wife.
The phone repairer was said to have made a snide remark at the politician for beating up a woman, which the ex-councillor of the Ikosi/Isheri Local Council Development Area overheard. Read more

A member of the Eiye Confraternity, Azeez Idris, paraded by the Lagos State Police Command alongside 15 others, allegedly said whenever he puts on his red regalia it means that somebody must be killed.
The state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, during the parade said Azeez Idris, as the leader of the Eiye Confraternity in Ilasan, confessed to the killing of many citizens in that location.
