The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria has called on the Lagos State Government to bring an end to the incessant harassment of manufacturers by louts, popularly called agberos.
The Director-General of the Association, Segun Ajayi-Kadir stated this during his remarks at the Annual General Meeting of the Ikeja Branch of the Manufacturers Association.
According to him, there was a need for a deeper relationship between manufacturers and the government to foster economic prosperity in the state. Read more
Nigeria, Germany sign agreement to accelerate Siemens power project implementation (Nation)
Nigeria and Germany have signed an accelerated performance agreement aimed at expediting the implementation of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) to improve electricity supply in Nigeria.
The signing ceremony, which was presided over by President Bola Tinubu and the German Chancellor, Mr Olaf Scholz, took place on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations Climate Conference (COP28) in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Kenny Anuwe, the Managing Director and CEO of FGN Power Company, and Ms. Nadja Haakansson, Siemens Energy’s Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Africa. Read more
Naira falls to N927.19/$ in official market (Vanguard)
The naira today depreciated to N927.19 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM).
Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for NAFEM rose to N927.19 per dollar from N832.32 per dollar on Thursday, indicating N94.87 kobo depreciation for the naira.
The market recorded an intraday high of N1160 per dollar and an intraday low of N701 per dollar resulting in a gap of N459 per dollar. Read more
Popular cleric floats radio station in Lagos (Nation)
A new radio station, Melody 107.7 FM commenced operation yesterday in Lagos.
The radio station is the brainchild of a popular clergyman and founder of Freedom Apostolic Revival Ministry (FARIM) and prayer mountain, Ori-Oke Ogo, Ibadan, Oyo State, Prophet Samuel Adebayo Ojo, aka Baba Authority.
Speaking during a pre-launch media briefing held at the station in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos, Prophet Ojo said the new radio station boasts experienced broadcasters and would bring unrivalled entertainment and lifestyle programming to the listeners. Read more
APC group drags Governor Yusuf to UN over alleged harassment of judges, destruction of properties (Guardian)
The Kano branch of the All Progressives Congress Youth Business Community (APC-YBCK) has dragged Governor Abba Yusuf to the United Nations for allegedly threatening the judiciary.
Led by Alhaji Umar Ladiyo, the group while submitting a petition against Governor Abba Yusuf at the UN house in Abuja called on the international community to sanction Kano state government and its supporters over the committal of the alleged act.
The group called on the United Nations to allow Nigerian judiciary to decide freely on cases before it, warning against unnecessary intervention. Read more
Banks, others to halt transactions on accounts/wallets without BVN, NIN – CBN (Vanguard)
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has mandated financial institutions to halt transactions in all funded individual accounts or wallets without Bank Verification Number (BVN) or National Identity Number (NIN) , effective March 1, 2024.
The apex bank also said that all existing unfunded individual Tier1 accounts/wallets without BVN or NIN shall be placed with immediate effect on “Post No Debit or Credit”.
CBN disclosed this today in a circular to all commercial, merchant, non-interest and payment service banks, other financial institutions and mobile money operators, noting that all individual existing and new tier 1,2 and 3 accounts/wallets must have BVN or NIN. Read more
Muslims rejoice as Inisa mosque opened after 3 years of leadership crisis in Osun (Sun)
Plans to settle the leadership crisis that led to the closure of Inisa Central Mosque in Odo-Otin Local Government of Osun State have been perfected as Muslims opened the mosque to observe Jumat prayer on Friday.
The Mosque was said to be closed after the death of one of the persons that contested the Imam and the subsequent threat by a group that nobody should observe solat prayer in the mosque.
The Deputy Chief of Staff to former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, Abdullah Binuyo, who hailed from the town, in a statement on behalf of the government, sometime in May 2021, ordered the closure of the Mosque till peace is restored. Read more
Fire outbreak at ABU Senate building (DailyTrust)
The Senate building of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, was gutted by fire on Friday evening.
A statement issued by the Director, Public Affairs Directorate of the university, Awwal Umar, said the fire started around 4:15pm.
He said the incident started from a small room housing an electrical Distribution Board (DB) at the ground floor of the building. Read more

Cameroon: Key suspects in murder case of journalist Martinez Zogo released (AfricaNews)
Amougou Belinga and Léopold Maxime Eko Eko, detained at the Yaoundé main prison as part of the investigation into the murder of journalist Martinez Zogo. Examining magistrate of the Yaoundé military court, Lieutenant-Colonel Florent Aimé Sikati II Kamwo, on Friday considered that there was insufficient evidence to justify their continued detention.
The businessman and the head of the Direction générale de la recherche extérieure (DGRE) are accused of having played a role in the death of the director of radio Amplitude FM, whose tortured body was discovered on the outskirts of Yaoundé in January. Zogo had not been missing for five days before his remains were located January 22 near Soa, a suburb of Yaoundé.
Léopold Maxime Eko Eko is suspected of “having provoked in any way whatsoever the torture of Martinez Zogo or given instructions to commit it”, in the words of the examining magistrate. In the course of the investigation, the intelligence chief was questioned several times on the substance of the case. In particular, he was confronted by his sole accuser, Justin Danwe, as well as several agents working within the DGRE at the time of the events. Read more

The Alchemist and Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) have made some new heat, which the former debuted at a recent event in Los Angeles.
The one-off show featured New York rappers MIKE and Wiki, with whom The Alchemist released a project titled Faith Is a Rock in September. Their appearance at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles, CA on Thursday (November 30) marked their first time performing as a team.

Sandra Day O’Connor, 1st woman to serve on US supreme court, dies aged 93 (Guardian)
Sandra Day O’Connor, the former US supreme court justice, died at age 93 in Phoenix on Friday of complications related to advanced dementia and a respiratory illness, the court said in a statement.
O’Connor was the first woman ever to serve on the US supreme court. She voted on a range of issues, including abortion, affirmative action and campaign finance.
O’Connor attended Stanford law school, graduating third in her class in 1952 and was the first woman to lead the Arizona state senate. Read more
