Software engineer bags life for raping minor on Children’s Day (Punch)
Justice Rahman Oshodi of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a 32-year-old software engineer, Chukwudi Anyanwu, who had unlawful sexual intercourse with his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter on Children’s Day, 2021 to life imprisonment.
The judge while delivering the judgment held that the prosecution was able to prove the ingredient of defilement of a minor against Anyanwu.
He held that the evidence of the survivor was corroborated by the medical report and that of her guardian (name withheld). Read more
Lagos police arrest man for fleeing with N120k diesel (Punch)
The operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested one Enyi Emmanuel for absconding with N120,000 worth of diesel he bought at a gas station in the state.
This was disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, on his X handle on Tuesday.
According to him, Emmanuel went to a gas station at Ile Zik in a Toyota Sienna car to fill his kegs with diesel worth over N120,000 and eloped after telling the attendant to get a Point of Sales terminal. Read more

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, have arrested a suspected electricity cable vandal.
The suspect, simply identified as Abu Ali, aged 35, was said to have been arrested by policemen from the Pen Cinema Division at about 1 am when motorists alerted the state police command of the suspect’s activity.

Man caught with stolen SUV, drugs in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned Chiagozie Chukwu before Magistrate O.Y Adefope of the Yaba Chief Magistrate Court for alleged attempted robbery, stealing a Ford SUV and possession of suspected hard drugs.
Chukwu faces three charges of theft and possession of stolen property.

Police probe cop’s alleged killing of man in Lagos mall (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of one Anosikwa Patrick, who was allegedly stabbed by a police officer identified as Inspector Taofeek at Skymall Shopping Mall in the Ajah area of the state on Saturday.

Lagos police arrest driver for stuffing children in car (Punch)
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad attached to the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a driver for stuffing 15 children into a Volkswagen Passat car.
The driver, who was contracted to take the children to a beach, locked four of the children in the car trunk while 11 others were crammed together.

A grandmother, Fatimo Ganiyu is now in police custody for allegedly locking up three infants in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

Army detains soldiers for alleged cable theft at Dangote refinery (Punch)
The Nigerian Army, on Wednesday, said two soldiers accused of stealing armoured cables at the Dangote refinery are currently in custody.
The soldiers had entered the facility on Sunday in an Acura jeep but were caught at the company’s main gate with 897 armoured cables that had been cut to size.
Reacting in a statement on Wednesday, the Director, Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, described the incident as “totally unacceptable and highly regrettable.”
Teacher bags 3 months community service for selling drugs (Punch)
A 57-year-old teacher, Azikiwe Oteka, was on Wednesday convicted and sentenced to three months of community service by the Federal High Court in Lagos State, for unlawfully dealing in various banned substances.
Justice Yelim Bogoro ordered Oteka to perform the community sentence, in lieu of a custodial sentence, after he pleaded guilty to the three counts of unlawful dealing in the banned drugs.
In addition to the community service, the convict was also ordered to pay a total fine of N400, 000, as fine. Read more
Man in custody for trafficking 1,040 illicit drugs (Punch)
A 43-year-old man simply identified as Obiefule Nwagha is now in custody for allegedly conveying 1,040 tons of Indian hemp at the Ilufe waterside jetty at the Alaba International Market, Ojo, in Lagos State.

A police source from the division who pleaded anonymity because he is not authorised to speak on the issue told our correspondent that detectives from the Tactical Squad, Ijaniki, trailed a white Mercedes Benz mini-truck to the Ilufe Waterside Jetty where it was discovered that a flying boat was offloading a sizable amount of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
Naira abuse: Bobrisky still in Ikoyi prison, say NCoS officials (Punch)
The Nigeria Correctional Service has refuted claims that controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky, who was handed a six-month prison sentence over abuse of the naira notes, was moved from the Ikoyi custodial centre to its other facility in Kirikiri, Lagos State.
Bobrisky was reported to have been discreetly transferred to Kirikiri Prison last weekend where he was expected to complete his term.

Justice Adenike Coker of a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, yesterday (Wednesday), issued a bench warrant for the arrest of one Moroof Owonla, known as Kaka Moroof and others over their absence in court in an ongoing alleged felony trial filed against them.
The defendants were alleged to have invaded the hotel (property) with the intent to deprive a businessman, Hassan Alli of his property in a land-grabbing quest.

Court jails 2 businessmen for illegal importation of 1,570 pump action rifles (ThisDay)
Justice Ambrose Lewis Alagoa of the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday (Wednesday) sentenced two businessmen, Ifeuwa Moses and Ayogu James, to two years imprisonment for unlawful importation of 1,570 pump action rifles into the country.
However, the Judge ordered the convicted businessmen to pay a fine of N1 million on each of the counts, as fine in lieu of the jail terms.
The Judge gave the judgment based on the plea bargain agreement reached between the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and counsel to the two convicted businessmen, Yakubu Galadima. Read more
