England’s 1966 World Cup-winning goalkeeper Gordon Banks has died at the age of 81.
Banks, regarded as one of the greatest ‘keepers in the history of the game, also represented clubs sides Chesterfield, Leicester City and Stoke City over the course of an esteemed career.
He played every match of England’s triumphant 1966 World Cup campaign, including the 4-2 win over West Germany in the final at Wembley.
‘It is with great sadness that we announce that Gordon passed away peacefully overnight,’ Banks’ family said. Read more
