Following complaints from citizens about illegal squatters, miscreants, and suspected criminal activities, the Lagos State Government has arrested 94 suspects in a midnight operation along rail track corridors.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday.

A pro-democracy group, Mebinone Asogbon Support Group, has charged Ondo State indigenes to vote the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in Saturday gubernatorial election.
Members of the group led by Mebinone Asogbon were on ground to cheer Aiyedatiwa, who on Tuesday, concluded his campaign tour on home soil in Ilaje Local Government Area, where he was received by his people in grand style.

Student jailed 14 months for online love scam (Punch)
Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Special Offences Court on Wednesday sentenced a 20-year-old undergraduate, Ganiyu Alabi, to one year and two months imprisonment for engaging in an online love scam.
The judge sentenced him, following his plea bargain agreement to the charge of possession of fraudulent documents.
Alabi is to serve his jail term at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, in Lagos. Read more
LASU scholars seek stricter measures to curb rape (Nation)
A team of researchers at the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has stressed the need for stricter punitive measures to curb rape in the country.
Presenting its research findings to the public last week at the ACEITSE Lecture Hall on LASU main campus in Ojo, Lagos, the team noted that sexual offenders should be dealt with, while legal reforms must be instituted, and laws on substance abuse effectively enforced.
The research project was entitled: Emerging Patterns and Determinants of Rape: Comparative Study of Rural-Urban Communities in Nigeria. Read more

A newly installed transformer in Rikkos Yarkasu community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State has been vandalized and looted.
The transformer was vandalised days after its installation by Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) staff.

Erik Spoelstra, who is widely known as one of the NBA’s top coaches, shouldered blame for a brutal timeout infraction, calling it a “serious mental error” in the final seconds of a Miami Heat loss to the Detroit Pistons.
Spoelstra called the timeout, despite not having any left to call, with 1.1 seconds remaining in overtime of the 123-121 loss in the NBA Cup matchup Tuesday in Detroit. The game was tied 121-121 at the time of his timeout call. Spoelstra stepped on the court after a game-tying dunk from Pistons center Jalen Duren and signaled to referees for the stoppage.
