NIGERIAN midfielder Alex Iwobi was voted Man Of The Match as Everton beat West Ham 1-0 at Goodison Park to end a six-game winless run.
The 26-year-old provided the assist for Neal Maupay, who fired in to hand Everton the only goal of the encounter in the first half.
Iwobi has assisted Everton’s last two goals in the Premier League.
The Toffees ended their winless run of six games with a hard-fought victory over West Ham at Goodison Park, their longest wait for their first league victory in a season since 2010-11.
Iwobi has been in fine form since the appointment of Frank Lampard as Everton manager.
In his post-match conference, the former Arsenal man, who joined The Toffees in 2019, hinted at Lampard’s impact on his career.
“I’ve always had the mindset that I can try to prove people wrong. The manager has given me faith to do so, and how to express myself as I always do in training.”
Former Brighton striker Maupay netted his first goal in royal blue as Everton’s wait for a deserved first Premier League win of the season came to an end at Goodison Park.
Speaking about his team’s performance and the fans’ reaction, Lampard expressed delight over the win and praised the fans, assuring them the team would get better.
“The reality is we have worked hard this season and deserved more. Our fans are amazing. To hold on, fight, dig in, we showed a lot of parts. We will get better. This team has to be a reflection of the fans. The passion of the fans, they demand things and they’d better see them. We have players who can deliver those characters,” Lampard said.
“Hopefully our football can get even better, the fans are happy. Nobody is getting carried away. At the moment there is a decent feeling around the place.”
The win means Everton head into the international break boasting a six-match unbeaten run, five in the Premier League, and with the joint second-best defensive record in the top flight.
Five league defeats from seven games will be a concern for West Ham manager David Moyes, whose side host fellow strugglers Wolves in their next match on 1 October.
