The coveted English Premier League (EPL) trophy made an appearance in Lagos today, as Guinness Nigeria Plc Managing Director/CEO, Girish Sharma, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at Lagos House, Marina.
The visit culminated in the official presentation of the iconic silverware to the delighted governor, underscoring the enduring passion for the Premier League in Nigeria.
Sharma, accompanied by key members of the Guinness Nigeria leadership team, including Marketing and Innovation Director, Mr. Yinka Bakare, and Corporate Relations Director, Mr. Rotimi Odusola, presented the gleaming trophy to Governor Sanwo-Olu. In a symbolic gesture of sportsmanship and partnership, Mr. Sharma also presented the Governor with a branded jersey.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his appreciation for the visit and the opportunity to have the prestigious trophy on display in Lagos, further igniting the enthusiasm of football fans across the state.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu said that bringing the Premier League trophy to Lagos showed that “there is something positive about our followership, enthusiasm, and the development of sports in our country, but more importantly in Lagos.”
He said: “We are excited that Guinness identifies with us by bringing the Premier League Trophy to Lagos. It is a trophy that everybody believes is inspirational. It is about using sports as a change agent. It is about using sports as a way of connecting to the youth demographic that we have. It is about using sports as a weapon to be able to identify the skills, capacity and capability of our young people. It is about using sports as a strong connection to be socially responsible citizens and individuals and to use it as a means of engagement.”
