Former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Joe Erico, has lauded ex-international Ndubuisi Egbo and English-born Nigerian manager Eddie Newton after their recent achievements with their respective European clubs.
Egbo made history by becoming the first Nigerian to win a European league after he led KF Tirana to victory in the 2019/20 Albania season. With the win, Tirana will be featuring in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Few days after Egbo’s success in Albania, Newton also guided Turkish side Trabzonspor to their first trophy in a decade, defeating Alanyaspor 2-0 in the final of the Turkish Cup.
Newton was given the caretaker role ahead of Trabzonspor’s last game of the Super Lig season against Kayserispor – which also ended in a victory. The Turkish side parted ways with manager Hüseyin Çimşir after he failed to win the league.
The 48-year-old left Stamford Bridge in February to take up the assistant coach position at the Turkish outfit. (Punch)
