Estate electrician, accomplice attack Maersk MD, kill wife (Punch)
Two suspects, Ade Akanbi and Olamide Adegoke, have been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for attacking the Managing Director of Maersk Nigeria, Gildas Tohouo, and stabbing his wife, Bernadett, to death at the couple’s residence on No. 1 Luggard Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos State.
It was learnt that the suspects also stabbed the man and forced him to drink a substance suspected to be acid.
While the corpse of the wife had been evacuated and deposited in the mortuary, the man is battling for his life in hospital. Read more
Fowler hands over to Nami as FIRS boss (Nation)
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the composition of a new board for the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), subject to Senate confirmation.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, also said the President has nominated a renowned tax consultant, Muhammad Nami as the new chairman.
According to the statement, “Mr. Muhammad, a Tax, Accounting and Management professional, with highly rated qualifications and professional practice and licenses from relevant professional bodies, has almost three decades of practical working experience in Auditing, Tax Management and Advisory and Management services to clients in the banking, manufacturing, services and public sectors as well as non- profit organisations. Senate panel, Akpabio faceoff over NDDC gets messier (Guardian)
The face-off between the Senate and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, over the fate of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) got messier yesterday as both parties traded allegations of fraudulent practices in the agency.
Also, the two parties traded blame on the delay in the inauguration of the NDDC board which was confirmed by the Senate last month.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC, Peter Nwaoboshi, in a response to an allegation of being placed on a monthly consultancy pay of N1 billion by the commission, allegedly made by the Interim Management Committee (IMC), challenged the agency to publish the facts, if any, to substantiate the accusation. Court slams N1m bail on estate agent over alleged fraudulent property sale (Vanguard)
A 59-year-old man, Agbomabini Kolawole, who conspired with others and obtained N8 million under false pretences from a woman to sell a building to her was on Monday granted N1 million bail by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y.O. Aje-Afunwa granted the bail application and ordered that the defendant should produce two sureties as a condition for the bail.

Aje-Afunwa said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.

Senator converted constituency project to private hotel – ICPC (Punch)
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Offences Commission on Monday said a senator representing Imo State diverted a constituency project to his personal hotel.
The ICPC commissioner in the state, Udonsi Arua, made the claim during the celebration of the 2019 United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day in Owerri.
Arua equally alleged that another federal lawmaker, who procured tricycles and buses for constituency project, also packed them in his residence without giving them to his constituents. Read more

The Federal Government will no longer allow weights above 45,000 tonnes on any road across the country.
Works and Housing Minister Babatunde Fashola broke the news on Monday when he hosted national executives and trustees of Public Transport Owners of Nigeria Association (PTONA).

The trial of former Abia State Governor Orji Uzor Kalu was concluded on time due to strict compliance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) of 2015, Court of Appeal President Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa said on Monday.
She said the effective implementation of the law will curb criminal trial delays.
Before the law was enacted, Kalu’s and others’ trial lasted for over 10 years due to interlocutory appeals that suspended proceedings at the lower courts. Read more
Chilean military plane ‘disappears’ with 38 aboard (BBC)
A military plane with 38 on board has disappeared en route to Antarctica, Chilean air force says in a statement.
The C-130 Hercules transport aircraft went missing around 06:00 local time (21:00) after taking off from the southern city of Punta Arenas.
Among the missing are 17 crew members and 21 passengers, who were travelling to provide logistical support. Read more

Democrats laid out their case Monday for the impeachment of Donald Trump, branding the US president a “clear and present danger” to national security as they prepared to issue formal charges against him.
Four months after a whistleblower sparked the investigation of Trump for seeking illicit political favors from Ukraine, Democrats said there was abundant evidence that he had committed bribery, abused his power and obstructed the investigation.
“President Trump’s persistent and continuing effort to coerce a foreign country to help him cheat to win an election is a clear and present danger to our free and fair elections and to our national security,” said Daniel Goldman, counsel for the Democrats. Read more
Ukraine and Russia agree to implement ceasefire (BBC)
Ukraine and Russia have agreed to implement a “full and comprehensive” ceasefire in eastern Ukraine by the end of 2019, after top-level talks.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky met face to face in Paris on Monday.
Five-and-a-half years of fighting between Ukrainian government forces and Russian-backed rebels have cost 13,000 lives. Read more

200 golfers for 2019 Tiger Open (Nation)
NO fewer than 200 golfers are expected to feature at the 24th Tiger Amateur Open Golf Championship scheduled for between December 13 and 15 at the Tiger Golf Club (TGC), Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo, Ibadan.
The Tiger Open is the biggest amateur golf tournament in Nigeria in which golfers compete in various categories for prizes.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has admitted he won’t bow to pressure to invite players from the Nigerian Professional Football League insisting that only the outstanding stars of the NPFL will get a chance to prove their mettle in his team.
Rohr has come under heavy criticisms after overlooking home-based players for the senior national team but the Franco-German tactician remains adamant that there are no players in the NPFL better than those in his current squad.
