Joseph Ada, a former housemate of the first edition of BBNaija show, is dead.
According to multiple reports, the former reality TV show star died in Delaware, US on Wednesday, May 24.
It was further stated that he died after a battle with pancreatitis.
Before his appearance on the Big Brother Nigeria show, Joseph was a former flight attendant with Virgin Atlantic. Read more
Senate amends act to increase FG’s Borrowing Limit From CBN (DailyTrust)
The Senate has amended the Act establishing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to increase the amount the federal government can borrow from the apex bank.
The Red Chamber passed the amendment at an emergency session held on Saturday.
The CBN, under its Ways and Means Advances, had extended about N22.7 trillion loan to the federal government as of December 19, 2022. Read more

Unemployment rate falls as Canada adds more jobs than expected
The Canadian government on Friday, announced a new policy to speed up the approval of family reunification applications, just a few days after the UK government banned students from Nigeria and other foreign countries on study visas from bringing their families into the country.
Announcing the development, Canadian immigration minister, Sean Fraser explained that the new measures were put in place to strengthen family reunification in Canada.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state has warned trailer/container owners against parking on roads to avoid prosecution.
Sanwo-Olu gave the warning at the inauguration of the Jimoh Odutola Road, Surulere and Reeve Road/Onilegbale Road in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The inauguration was part of activities to herald the Sanwo-Olu-led administration’s second tenure which will commence on May 29, 2023. Read more
4 die in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway road crash (Channels)
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of four persons around Mountain Top University, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, while two others survived unhurt.
The Chief Routes Commander and Public Education Officer of the sector, Florence Okpe, in a statement, said the crash which occurred in the early hours of Saturday involved two vehicles — a Lexus RX350 with registration number KTU738HM and a Mack Truck registered as T21024LA.
“A total of six persons were involved, four dead, while two others escaped unhurt,” she said. Read more
May 29: NSCDC deploys 700 personnel in Jigawa (Guardian)
The Jigawa command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has deployed 700 personnel for the inauguration of the state Governor-elect, Malam Umar Namadi.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), CSC Adamu Shehu, said this when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Saturday.
Shehu said that the personnel were deployed to all routes leading to the venue of the inauguration on May 29. Read more

Hugh Grant’s lawsuit alleging illegal snooping by The Sun tabloid can go to trial, court says (HuffPost)
A court has rejected an attempt by the publisher of The Sun tabloid to throw out a lawsuit by actor Hugh Grant alleging that journalists and investigators it hired illegally snooped on him.
On Friday, Justice Timothy Fancourt said a trial in January will have to determine whether The Sun had carried out unlawful information gathering that included tapping his landline and bugging his car and breaking into his home.
News Group Newspapers, which owns The Sun, had argued that Grant didn’t bring his claims within a six-year time limit. The judge dismissed Grant’s phone hacking claims on time limitation grounds, but said the case could proceed on the other allegations. Read more
The Sanford and Son actor Marlene Clark has died (FarOut)
The actor Marlene Clark, best known for her work in the 1970s NBC sitcom Sanford & Son, has died.
Appearing in the beloved sitcom alongside the likes of Whitman Mayo, Redd Foxx, LaWanda Page, Don Bexley and Demond Wilson, Clark was a key feature of the show. As well as appearing on the small screen, Clark also enjoyed a number of feature film credits, playing a leading role in the 1973 horror movie Ganja & Hess with an ensemble cast that included Duane Jones and Bill Gunn.
Wilson, who appeared with Clark on Sanford & Son, shared a tribute to the late actor on Twitter, writing: “RIP beautiful actress Marlene Clark. . . It was a delight to work with you”. Read more

Russia blames US, EU for escalating tensions in Kosovo (JerusalemPost)
Russia on Saturday blamed Kosovo, the United States and European Union for escalating tensions in the Balkans and said it was watching with concern after violent clashes between Kosovan police and protesters opposed to ethnic Albanian mayors.
The United States and allies on Friday rebuked Kosovo, saying the use of force to install mayors in ethnic Serb areas undermined efforts to improve troubled relations with neighboring Serbia. NATO on Saturday urged Kosovo to dial down tensions.

Hearn said Fury’s team had “reached out” but “no contract has been sent”.
