A former police chief of Afghanistan’s Baghlan province was among victims of a bomb blast that rocked Faizabad, the capital of northern Badakhshan province, on Thursday.
The provincial director for Information and Culture Qari, Maazudin Ahamdi said Safiullah Samim, the former police chief of Baghlan province, had been martyred in the blast today.
Without providing more details, the official said an investigation had been initiated into the incident.
The explosion took place inside a mosque where a memorial service for late deputy governor of Badakhshan province Mawlawi Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi was underway, the official added.
This is the second blast in Faizabad city since Tuesday.In the previous blast, which happened Tuesday morning, two people including Mawlawi Ahmadi were killed and six others wounded.
The rival Daesh or Islamic State outfit had reportedly claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s explosion.
No group or individual has yet to claim responsibility for Thursday’s deadly attack in Faizabad.
Meanwhile, local media reported that 15 bodies and 50 wounded people had been taken to hospital in Faizabad. (Xinhua/NAN)
