A man and members of his family narrowly escaped after an overhead tank collapsed on their house at Unguwar Sabon-Tasha in Abaji Area Council of the FCT.
The victim, Alhassan Aliyu, who is a former councillor that represented Agyana/Pandagi ward of the council, while narrating the incident, said it happened around 3am on Saturday.
He said he woke up to pump water after power was restored, adding that thereafter his wife woke him and asked him to go and put off the switch as the tank had been filled up. Read more
Nothing will stop us from removing all shanties posing security threat to Abuja — Wike (Leadership)
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has insisted that all shanties in Abuja will be removed so as to ensure security of lives and properties in the country’s capital city.
The Minister, who was addressing occupants of a shanty village in Wuye area of Abuja on Sunday evening, said he was more concerned with the security implications of having settlements with no identifiable occupants in the FCT and will not succumb to threats and blackmail from any quarter.
He, however, directed that the occupants of the Wuye shanty village should appoint five persons among themselves to meet with the FCT Ministry on Tuesday, to fashion out means of assisting them. Read more
LASG begins training of 3k youths in creative skills (Punch)
The Lagos State Government has kicked off the Lagos Creative Vaults with 50 participants as a pilot scheme.
The Lagos Creative Arts Vault is an initiative of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe, to train about 3,000 youths to become future creatives for excellence which Lagos is known for.
At a Friday news conference to launch the initiative at the Lekki Creative Arts and Crafts Market, Idris hinted that the youth would be trained in different vocational skills in 18 months. Read more
I sacked 10 chiefs to save 6 villages from extinction — Ogun monarch (Vanguard)
The Olu of Orile -Ilawo in Odeda local government area of Ogun State, Oba Alexander MacGregor, has said that he sacked 10 title chiefs of Ilawo to save no fewer than six villages from going into extinction.
Oba MacGregor also dismissed the rumour making rounds that he is at loggerhead with the Osile of Oke-Ona Egba, Oba Adedapo Tejuoso, saying that it is the handiwork of mischief-makers.
Oba MacGregor was speaking against the backdrop of the recent indefinite suspension of 10 chiefs who were sacked for allegedly selling more than 1,600 acres of land, belonging to six villages, as well as disloyalty and insubordination. Read more

NDLEA arrests 6 kingpins, recovers drugs worth billions (Nation)
After months of intelligence gathering and painstaking surveillance, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have smashed two major cross-border drug trafficking syndicates with cocaine and opioids worth billions recovered from them while six leaders of the cartels were arrested in different parts of the country.
Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters Abuja, Femi Babafemi, made this known in a statement on Sunday.
Babafemi said the syndicates, which comprise Nigerians based in Mubi, Adamawa Onitsha, Anambra and Lagos States as well as Cameroonians came under NDLEA radar after they were suspected of being major suppliers of drugs to terror groups operating in Nigeria and Cameroon. Read more

Taylor Swift has won big at the MTV Europe Awards (EMAs), scooping Best Artist for the third time.

Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/Captain America, is taking on Harrison Ford‘s Red Hulk in the new trailer for “Captain America: Brave New World”.
The footage (below) was unveiled at the D23 Brazil fan event on Saturday, with Mackie and Danny Ramirez, who portrays Joaquin Torres/Falcon, presenting the trailer to the audience.
The film, directed by Julius Onah, sees Ford as U.S. President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who wants to bring Captain America aboard in an official military position after being elected president. The future production will be overseen by Pophouse Entertainment, the company behind ABBA’s ‘Voyage’ show, in which the Swedish pop group were represented by holographic virtual avatars on stage.
Pophouse acquired KISS’ catalogue, brand name and IP in April, while the band first unveiled their ‘new era’ at the final show off their farewell tour last December in Madison Square Garden. Mattel “deeply regrets” porn site misprint on “Wicked” dolls (BBC)
Toy manufacturer Mattel has said it “deeply regrets” a misprint on packaging for dolls inspired by the new “Wicked” movie which listed the address for an adult website.
The company recently released the singing dolls ahead of the long-awaited film starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
But eagle-eyed fans posted images on social media showing the packaging had a pornography website on it, instead of the movie’s web address.
In a statement, Mattel apologised for the “unfortunate error” and advised parents that the misprinted website “is not appropriate for children”. Read more

Rival political groups of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday thwarted a plan by her Awami League party to hold a rally in Bangladesh’s capital, seen as a potential first effort to make a comeback on the streets since she fled the country in August amid a mass uprising.
The rally in Dhaka by Hasina’s party was to commemorate the death of a party activist on Nov. 10, 1987, which had sparked a mass protest against former military dictator H.M. Ershad. He was eventually ousted from office, ending his nine-year rule in 1990.
The day is commemorated as “democracy day.” In 1991, Bangladesh switched to a parliamentary democracy from a presidential form of government, and since then Hasina and her rival, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, became the most powerful political figures in the country. Read more

China has reasserted its territories around a flashpoint reef in the South China Sea after the Philippines defined its sea boundaries in the contested waters.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr signed two laws on Friday to define the country’s maritime entitlements and set designated sea lanes and air routes to “reinforce sovereignty”.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday that it “firmly opposes this and it will continue to take all necessary measures in accordance with the law to resolutely defend the country’s territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests”. Read more

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick criticised the “wrong decision” to disallow Robert Lewandowski’s goal for offside as his team were beaten 1-0 at Real Sociedad on Sunday in LaLiga.

Englishman Paul Waring birdied the last two holes on Nov 10 for a bogey-free six-under 66 to win the Abu Dhabi Championship by two shots.
The 39-year-old, a resident of Dubai, delivered the hammer blow to the chasing pack with a 41-feet birdie putt on the par-three 17th hole at Yas Links Golf Club. He then hit a brilliant three-wood second shot to set up a birdie on the last to clinch the US$9 million (S$12 million) tournament.
