At least three family members were killed while two others were injured in a fresh attack in Te’ebbe community, Miango district, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The victims, farmers from the same family, were attacked while harvesting tomatoes.

Vehicle kills man 24hrs before trip abroad for secured job (Guardian)

Rotji Lazarus, a 27-year-old resident of Gwalameji area of Bauchi, has reportedly been knocked down by a hit-and-run driver along Bauchi–Dass road in Yelwa area, 24 hours before a planned trip abroad after securing a job.

Eyewitness accounts said that Lazarus was killed at night by a moving vehicle without headlights, close to POWA shops, Police Barracks.

Our Correspondent gathered that the driver absconded after knocking Lazarus, heading towards Rafin Zurfi, Tafawa-Baleawa Road. Read more 

NNPC increases petrol prices in Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan (Tribune)

Retail outlets operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited on Monday raised the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) to N945 per litre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The price hike was also implemented at NNPC stations in Lagos, where petrol now sells for N915 per litre. The adjustment marks a fresh increase of N45 in Lagos and N35 in Abuja, compared to the previous rates of N870 and N910, respectively.

Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, also recorded a rise in pump prices to N925 per litre at NNPC outlets. Read more

The Federal Government, in a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the government took note of the latest security advisory issued by the Embassy of the United States, restricting its staff and their families from non-official travel to military sites or other government facilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

“While the Federal Government recognizes and respects the right of foreign missions, including the U.S. Embassy, to issue travel advisories to their citizens, it is important to state categorically that Abuja remains safe for citizens, residents, and visitors alike,” Idris said. Read more 

Ondo Poly final-year student commits suicide over alleged failed relationship (Guardian) 

A 28-year-old final-year student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), Arobo Precious, has committed suicide over an alleged failed relationship.

The deceased Higher National Diploma (HND) II student was found dead around 9pm. over the weekend in a bush near his residence in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Council Area of Ondo State.

Before his death, Precious was said to have shared a video on social media that has since gone viral in the state. Read more

Kenyan Police officers charged over death of blogger in custody (AfricaNews)

Three police officers in Kenya were on Monday, June 23, charged with the murder of a 31-year-old blogger, Albert Ojwang, whose death in police custody earlier this month has triggered nationwide protests and renewed scrutiny of police brutality in the country.

Ojwang was arrested after allegedly defaming Kenya’s deputy police chief, Eliud Lagat, on social media. Lagat, who has denied any wrongdoing, stepped down temporarily last week while investigations continue. 

Alongside the three officers, Samson Kiprotich, Talaam James Mukhwana, and Peter Kimani, three civilians are also facing charges. Read more

During their time on stage, the band’s drummer, Lionel Duke, suffered cardiac arrest. Amid the medical emergency, frontman Garry Christian. Emergency services were quick to respond, putting up a privacy screen as they worked to save Duke, NME reported.

An icon of ’70s rock music has died at the age of 81.

Mick Ralphs, co-founder of the 1970s rock bands Bad Company and Mott The Hoople, has died at the age of 81, according to his rep (per Variety). There was no cause of death announced, but his rep said that he had been in poor health for a couple of years.

NBBF confirms new dates for Zenith Bank Women’s B’ball League (Leadership)

The Nigeria Basketball Federation, the organisers of the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League, has announced a new date for the 2025 league season, with the first phase for two conferences; Atlantic and Savannah, expected to start on July 21 and 28.

In the letter signed by NBBF secretary general, Amina Amanchi, and forwarded to all the participating teams and stakeholders, stated that the phase 1 games in the preliminaries of the Atlantic shall now be played between July 21 and 29 in Benin, Edo State, while that of Savannah will be between July 28 and August 5 in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Phase 2 of the zonal playoffs in the Atlantic conference shall be played August 24 to September 1, in Ilorin, Kwara State, while the Savannah conference playoffs holds between same dates in Jos, Plateau State. Read more

Three people are dead and more than 70 have been injured after a terrifying incident at a soccer game in Algeria.

The tragedy occurred when a barrier gave way in the upper stands of the 5 July 1962 Stadium in Algiers on Saturday, June 21. The barrier’s collapse caused fans to fall from the stands into the seats below them.

Algeria’s Ministry of Health confirmed the incident in a post on Facebook. “The Beni Messous University Hospital received 38 injured people, while three deaths were recorded. Ben Aknoun Hospital also received 27 injured people, while Bab El Oued Hospital received 16.” Read more
