Fear as ‘terrorist’ engages security operatives in gun battle in Minna (DailyTrust)
There was pandemonium at Minna, Niger State Capital, when a suspected member of Boko Haram sect engaged security operatives in a gun duel in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Security Operatives were said to have launched an operation at Gebganu Area of Minna, where the house of the suspect is located.
Daily Trust gathered that no fewer than 150 AK47 rifles, about 3, 000 live ammunitions, explosives, a rocket launcher and Anti-aircraft rifle were recovered from the house. Read more

Nigeria launches mass HPV vaccination campaign to curb cervical cancer (AfricaNews)
Nigeria has commenced a large-scale vaccination campaign against the human papillomavirus (HPV) in a bid to substantially reduce cervical cancer rates.
The initiative aims to vaccinate 16.6 million girls aged 9 to 14 by the end of 2025. HPV is known to be responsible for some cases of cervical cancer.
The Federal Government has introduced the HPV vaccine into the routine immunization system, targeting over seven million girls in a single round of vaccination—the largest in the African region. Cervical cancer ranks as the third most common cancer among Nigerian women and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the age group of 15 to 44. Read more
Alleged failed surgery: Court further adjourns trial of Lagos surgeon (Guardian)
A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday, further adjourned until Nov. 20, for the adoption of written addresses, in the trial of a surgeon, Anuoluwapo Adepoju, charged with alleged evasion from an investigation into a failed plastic surgery.
The case which was scheduled for adoption of addresses on Tuesday, did not go on as earlier scheduled

Residents tackle Lagos hotel over noise pollution (Punch)
Some residents of Alli Dada Street in Ago Palace Way in the Oshodi Local Government Area of Lagos State have accused the owners of a hotel, Doreen Grand Hotel and Suites, of noise pollution.
The residents who spoke to PUNCH Metro lamented that since the hotel began operation in the residential area last year, they no longer sleep well due to the noise which they said usually begins late in the evening into the early hours of the morning.
The residents said they had petitioned the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency many times without a respite and they later resorted to sending a petition through a law firm. Read more

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu has said that pre-election cases and orders of the court on the nomination process by political parties are slowing down the printing of sensitive materials for the forthcoming governorship elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states.
Speaking at meetings with political parties ahead of the off-cycle elections, Yakubu said reprinting the materials in compliance with court orders within a short period of time is not only expensive, but the process management is very challenging.
He said although the Commission has already published the final list of candidates for the three states, four recent court orders have compelled the Commission to review the list, adding that these changes have been reflected in the updated list of parties and candidates on our website. Read more

Suspected Islamist militants kill 26 people in east Congo attack (VOA)
Suspected Islamist militants killed at least 26 people in an attack in the town of Oicha in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday night, the mayor said on Tuesday.
He attributed the killings to the Allied Democratic Forces, or ADF, a Ugandan armed group based in eastern Congo that has pledged allegiance to Islamic State and launches frequent attacks.
The attack took place around 11 p.m., said Nicolas Kikuku, the mayor of Oicha, which is in North Kivu province. Four people were wounded and taken to hospital, he said. Read more
Hamas releases 2 Israeli hostages from Gaza as war continues (CBS)
Hamas released two more hostages on Monday, identified by Israeli officials as Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, just days after releasing two American women on Friday.
Cooper and Lifshitz were abducted from their homes in Kibbutz Nir Oz, a small Israeli community near the Gaza border that came under attack on Oct. 7.
“After being handed over to the IDF forces, they are making their way at this time to a medical center in Israel that was specially organized and prepared to receive them. Their family members will be waiting for them there,” a spokesperson for Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office, on behalf of the Special Envoy for Abducted and Missing Persons, said. Read more

Pakistan indicts former PM Imran Khan for leaking state secrets (AlJazeera)
A Pakistani court has indicted Imran Khan for leaking state secrets, according to reports. The charge adds to the huge volume of legal turmoil that the former prime minister has met since his removal in April 2022.
“He has been indicted today and the charge was openly read out,” said Shah Khawar of the Federal Investigation Agency outside Adiala Jail in Islamabad, where Khan is imprisoned, Pakistani broadcaster Geo TV reported on Monday.
Khan’s former deputy, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, has also been indicted in the state secrets case. Read more
